CB400SF engine removal

Hi Team, first post on the SOHC
I'm trying to get my engine in/out of a CB400 superfour 1992 NC31. Somehow I managed to wigglel it out with the bike lying on its right hand side. I want to test getting it back in before I paint the frame and engine.
I've been playing tetris for ages not and cannot for the life of me figure out how to get this thing back into the frame. I've removed the exhaust studs to give me a bit more room but it seems that the lugs at the back of the gearbox keep getting in the way.
I'll be doing a lot of scratching of paint to get it back in so I want to get it right before I paint.
Is there something obvious I'm missing here?
thanks in advance,
Brent

I'll give that a shot. But it's like a REALLY big girl in REALLY tight jeans.
Clearly I may be better at getting girls out of jeans and not back into them.

Is there nothing I need to remove off the engine first?

This is a modern bike, no breather cover, no oilfilter housing. Set it upright, with the engine on the right side as with (nearly) all honda's, indeed rearend first, the rest should go in smoothly as there are hardly any parts sticking out!

There is no oil filter cover and the oil filter is out.
Is it front in first or back in first?
Calj737 suggests front first, Robvangulik says rear first.
If I go front first the lugs on the back of the gearbox cannot get pst the frame. If I go in rear first the starter motor hits the frame.
The CB400/4 can literally drop straight over the motor, I've seen a youtube vid of it. However The super four is much intricate and I know I got it out but I cannot seem to reverse the procedure. doh!

Ok. so several hours of tetris and I have it sorted.
You've got to lay the motor down on its left side and then get the back of the motor in first with the front of the motor rotated vertaically (relative to the frame) to its final position and then wiggle the front in. Once you get it it's pretty easy, but it takes some trying.
