hey guys

looking at the exhaust system now. mine had what looks to be a mac on it, it is going. in order to get collector plates here the bike needs to be stock. I am considering a set of the pipes that yamiya builds, the replica ones. anybody ever tried them? they are approx. 2 grand delivered so want to make sure the quality and fit etc. is good? also any thoughts on the yamiya bodywork? another 2 grand! this thing is adding up FAST! ;-)

thx

The Yamiya boy work is top notch, but pricey. Several members have used it on their builds and it's really very close to original. I haven't seen a build buy the pipes, but I'd suspect they are as good as their body work.

You can troll eBay and occasionally a set comes up there, but they too are pricey.

I heard that DSS had replica stock 4-4 pipes in the works but I'm not sure of the status.  I would think that the price would be similar to Yamiya.  Yamiya makes nice stuff!

hey guys

has anybody tried the pipes and bodywork sold by a company on ebay called mach IV motors? wondering about the quality. they are in north America so shipping would be easier for sure.

thanks

I have a hunch that the DSS and the Mach IV pipes both come from Yamiya.  Send Mach an email asking who and where they are manufactured, curious what, if any, their response would be?

did that and they replied "not yamiya". also forgot to ask, anybody suggest who to redo the KO gauges. mine are pretty good except for scratches and loose jewels. faceplates look pretty good. tried to pull them apart but the plastic housings break when pulling the guts out the back and not sure how the needles come off so probably best to send them out, your thoughts???

thanks!

hey all

so I am making progress and managed to dig the project out of the corner of the garage on the weekend. for fun I will post some pics and update on progress when I get a minute. what I need help with now is the front brakes. all going back together however I realized I am missing 2 brackets and I am wondering if anybody has one or both they wouldn't mind selling? they are the brackets 8 and 9 on the ronnies fiche site for 1969 cb750 under front brake hose. 1 is the bracket that goes down by the front fender at the rubber/hardline junction, the other looks to go up near the splitter on the triple tree.

also if anybody has one I am looking for the bracket # 11 and 12 under the steering stem diagram.

thanks a lot!

I would post those needs in the "wanted" section of the board. You will get a lot of lookers there. I bet Bill Benson has them too.

hello all

now i'm nervous!!! just received my candy ruby red body kit c/w the wrinkle tank from yamiya750. got it out of the box and it is beautiful! thought I would throw couple pieces on to get a look. side covers went on perfectly, here's the problem. THE TANK SEEMS TO LONG for some reason. I am inserting the front brackets on the tank over the rubber holders up front and have pushed the tank as far forwards as it will go. it sure looks to be all the way onto the rubbers when I look in there with my flashlight. now the rear rubber holder wont slip onto the rear of the tank because the tank is too long in the back end. I can not put the seat down either as it hits the tank. anybody have any ideas? it really should be pretty easy to slip the tank on. my serial # on my bike frame is cb750-1021567. were the wrinkle tanks longer than the non wrinkle tanks? HELP, japans a long way away.

thx
kent

My candy ruby set from Yamiya sits slightly further back than the edge of the rubber mount, but I was able to get the mount over the tank's tab, and it fits well.

If you look at all stock tanks, they all have worn off area where the seat hits the tank. I think it's more of a psychology.  Your mind may be playing tricks on you, that the tank is brand new and you don't want to have scratch on it.

thanks guys

that may be the case. plus I have a brand new seat on it as well. I wasn't sure if for some reason the wrinkle tanks were longer and that was the cause. it sounds like wrinkle or not the tank has the same dimensions? I actually put the old tank that came with the bike back on and it was very snug/tight as well. guess i'll try again. the yamiya paint sure is nice though, looking forward to making it fit.

thx

Do you have new front rubber mounts?  After I replaced mine, it made for a snug fit and the tank did not easily slide forward all the way.

hey guys

finally had some time to dig out a camera and snap some pics of the progress on my KO. pretty evident the changes. bodywork is yamiya, pipe is kerker. chrome has not been re-done yet. getting it to a point where I can get it down the highway to make sure everything is tight and WORKS. couple pics attached, when purchased and up to now:

gonna have a few more questions for you all soon to get this sorted. thanks for all the help to this point!

thanks guys

lots of little bits and pieces left. wont get chroming done until I ride it at speed to make sure all is good. original tank was rusted badly in the seems so I went with the yamiya bodywork. actually had to cut into the tank to get the petcock off. need a new front fender as they cut this one down in the seventies. will also get the front wheel done as well after I shake it down, don't want to invest too much more money until I see how it rides. hopefully in the next month or two I can put a permit on it for a day and try it out. then more jewellery will go on it. the cbx I restored a couple years ago and the VFR last year. the Goldwing in the back is my touring bike. guess i'm a Honda guy........

thx

Keep in mind dialing in those carbs does take some patience and persistence. Yamiya paint looks very nice. Coming along good.

hey guys

restoring my original petcock and when I had it vaporblasted it was discovered it had some corrosion in the petcock bowl, see pics. this piece is non-magnetic so I am guessing its alum.??? any thoughts on how to repair? braze or solder? JB weld? Q-bond? I am concerned with the repair sitting in gas all the time that it holds. anybody had any experience here?

thx

I routinely get a new petcock on all these bikes. For as old as they are it is indeed in line to do. Petcock is the life blood of the bike :) In the least you should rebuild it, but I know a few guys that have leaks after rebuilding them too.
