Anubis Cycle - New web site give honest opinion - really
« on: September 15, 2006, 11:52:29 AM »
Right now it is re-done in the basic skeleton that it will be. Basically a new look with the same info. I figured it was time to re do the site. It was looking ok, but way too static for my taste. Right now it is set up with a flash splash page. This was just an idea I was playing with, so it is not super killer. I want to add some serious animation and graphics along with some background music (Rob Zombie-ish) for the splash page. The only thing I do not like on the splash page right now is the text is way to damn slow.

Anyway be honest let me know what you think. Some people hate splash pages, some people like them. Don't be an ass an attack, constructive criticism please.

I like it. Looks good. I agree that the text is too slow. Could you have it so that the text stays up? With only one line appearing at a time, each line seems incomplete. Also the pages are oriented to the left so there's a large blank area on the right. Maybe that's just my computer though. Other than those "glitches" it looks really good!

Thanks for the input guys. Rushoid, I think if I set the main frame centered it will take care of that lopsided feeling. Plus I plan to make each of the lines on the intro as they "burn-in" stay while the next line comes in.

I will be adding the evironment music here shortly

Hey Gas? Are you on a dial up or DSL? Or do you mean the splash page animation moves like an old lady with square wheels on power chair  ;) ;D

The dark grey text against the black background is tough to read, at least on my laptop's screen.

Also, the picture of the Honda engine at the bottom of the Honda parts goes to an eBay auction for something else.

Very nice. You may want to give people a way to skip the intro. You have 8 seconds hold a visitor.

Fixed both of these. Thanks for catching that dead link.

Working on this detail. I want to make it so vistors can skip the into altogether by bookmarking the index (main) page. Plus I am trying to kill off the loop, but something is goofy. It is supposed to go once and then proceed to the main page. Working on it.

Hey Cheepo,
Under "contact us", it says you can email or snail mail, but there is no email listing.
I wanted to email you, I have a couple questions for ya.

Overall, it looks pretty good, easy to navigate, it's a little dark, but being the ruler of the underworld, I understand. ;D

I could type a huge response here, since this is what I do for a living, but I have to keep it as short as possible.

First, good on ya for redoing it.

Now, the criticisms:

Dump the splash page. Splash pages are unnecessary fluff that delays the visitor getting to the meat of the site. If I was just a regular Joe that was looking for something, that splash page wouldn't help me. It would slow me down, not what I want.

That little rotating globe at the bottom? Very 1996. Little animations like that are cool for little kids and old people to look at, but again, not very helpful.

The source code needs some serious cleaning up. Clean code = fast code. Fast code = people finding what they want quickly. People finding what they want = more sales and a happier Cheapo.

I'm a web designer by trade. If you want some help or have questions, let me know.

Beyond me why is scored so low. I know there is a valid robots.txt file. As for the rest, well I have seen totally irrelevant outdated garbage rank, so??? Anyway the word saturation is low because this is just the skeleton. BTW this does have meta tags and key words in all pages.

Thanks for coming equipped with the facts.  ;D I respect that greatly.

Not sure why the analyzer read it so low? Making some more changes......

Will be updated product as time allows. I know I have white face for 500. I will post a pic when I get it up on the web site. There are about 6-7 gauge face sets that are not on there right now including the full color "Ghost Rider 750 faces", which are on eBay right now.

I love all of the input I am getting here, Especially the tech stuff that we always forget when hammering up a site. Lucky me, through Dreamweaver MX - I have made this sucker real easy to maintain via template files.

The splash page flames reminds me of a "crash & burn" theme which is really not needed. Otherwise it's a good looking site and I like it. Two thumbs up!  ;D

Thanks for the input. Right now just stoking the splash page for now........ 8) ::) I used to be of the NO FLASH and NO SPLASH crew (still kind of am). As a matter of fact my wife (after years of listening to me ranting about flash and splash) near kicked my ass for doing a flash splash  :-[

It will problably go, but for now it is a new play thing  ??? ;D Maybe in one sense I am selling out a little? Doubt it but maybe....

Lucky me, through Dreamweaver MX - I have made this sucker real easy to maintain via template files.

I use Dreamweaver too, although I learned plain text editor HTML before I started using tools like DW . It can make your life easy if you don't know HTML. It's also a good tool if you do know HTML. BUT, it has it's faults. Take a look at the source code on your site. Just for example, the style sheets. You're much better off using a linked style sheet that you can use throughout your site. That way, if you want to change the design of something, say a font size or color for example, you can change it in one spot and and it will be changed everywhere. DW won't have to update the template on every single page... nothing like that. One change, and boom, it's done.

And if you're using CSS, which you sort of are, you don't need <FONT> tags as well. They're just cluttering up everything. Cleaning up code, making it lightweight, fast, efficient, WILL help with search engine rankings, as well as processes like what Seaweb ran it through.

Seriously, let me know if you want some help. You're doing good on your own, really you are, but with some guidance you could take it up a whole other level.
