Hey guys, I have a set of those RC stocker bushed rods with bigger bolts if anyone is interested. Got them from EBay too back when the new stuff wasn't available. Musta been from a TQ midget cause they are all worn ass out, outta round, with a slight twist  ;D  I'd let em go for, say, $200..... Damn good thing I had them checked out before I used them.... There are just some things you shouldn't buy off of EBay.

Trey, looking forward to watching your progress and meeting you at the Salt this year. We need to get Benton out there with a turbo too. Maybe slap a turbo on his new auto! Or just Bring Purple Haze out  ;)

As of today 3/13/2012 my original owner 75 CB750F has made it through 3 wives, er EX-wives. Free at last.  ;-)

Were the Goldenrods  Billet?

All the cams have just have different Letters and a numbers, for instance this one i'm looking at had a raised circle with a line straight through it, with what looks like a D on the opposite side. on the other side of the cam there is a mark of R8 I believe..

All but some sets of jugs are in pretty bad shape, broken fins, unfortunately the "STEAKLEY" jugs seems to have sat with moisture in there and were rusty and slightly marked or pitted in two of the cylinders..looks like beyond repair..but im wondering if I can replace the sleeve and copper o-ring?  But one motor i opened seemed to have been freshly rebuilt, with all fresh gaskets, clean non carbonated pistons, new plugs.. and the cleanest head i've ever seen.. likely not ran at all

Hey Trey, can you post a pic of the Steakly cylinder block? I've never seen one. Cheers, Terry. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

They came from the most unique motor..

They also seem to carry the Biggest bore of all the motors..

My main question is. Do these have a removable sleeve?I know they are Copper O-ringed They have suffered some rust damage and I really wish I could use this set..

My other question is, with this being a Turbo build.. I have 4 sets of Pistons to use.. two sets are flat and two sets are domed, and all the sets seem to be different sizes.. What set are best for this use?

Thanks!

A member of the Forums set me this last night:

Welcome to the forums Trey.

I’d almost bet that Steakley refers to one of the Steakley brothers in either Waco or Dallas, TX. Their dad had/has a Chevrolet dealership in one of those cities. Bobby Steakley used to campaign a 1969 Camaro top fuel funny car around the 1971-73 time frame.

Perhaps worth looking into for some history?

Regards, John

I am only a few hours from the Waco area, and Kevin Draper is based from that area. Once i get to actually talk to him im sure ill have more insight on this motor

Thanks for posting the pics mate, that's a standard cylinder block that's been bored and had bigger sleeves installed, so yes, you should be able to re-sleave it. Are the air-gaps between the cylinders welded up? (boring for sleeves that large will involve cutting into the air-gaps)

The pistons appear to be either 72 or 73mm, so 1026 or 1054cc if the engine hasn't been stroked as well. Cheers, Terry. ;D

It was definitely the motor with the most Extensive work done to it.. It was also the jugs that claimed the "1000" mark

Its awesome to be able to track down the lineage, even if it's slowly

Here's a few more pictures, What is this blue/black sealant in between the fins?

I agree 100%. But then I just drag race- modern electronics and up to date rods/pistons give the best bang for the buck. On the other hand, there is a market for all of the parts this young man has on hand. Someone out there will buy it and maybe even pay the prices he is asking. You guys did a great job of explaining to him what the marketability is for members on this forum and I'm sure he appreciates the advice. Try to temper the responses a bit fellas- we don't want to run him off. Lol.

No offense meant Frank. It just makes me chuckle. As some of you guys know, I am an old fart and use to race with these guys back in the day when all I could afford was a KH cam and an Action Fours 836 kit. Got my doors blown off regularly by these big motor guys unless it was handicapped. Also remember one of the Steakly boys racing a few seasons. Looks like possibly a "fresh" motor he had for a spare. And yes, I used to seriously drool for this stuff.   :P :P :P  Honda mechanic with wife, kids, and a house and car payment, couldn't get there.  :-[ :-[ :-[

Trey, as far as the Turbo combo for the Salt, it really depends on what's been done to the chamber, how big the dome is, and how solid the bottom end stuff is. If it's a really big bore, I would guess the flat tops go with the turbo if you want to make a full pass or two.  :) ;) 8)

KMB69- I noticed your in Texas as well, I would love to get together and talk sometime if your not too far away from New Braunfels..

I also just noticed that there was another motor, with flat top pistons, with a almost perfect cylinder block.. looks to be the same size, with proper welds..

Check it out..

That looks like a late K0-K1 block done right. Nice! Probably your best choice. You need to use some new Carrillo rods. Get the cranks magna fluxed to make sure they are not cracked if they are strokers. Welding back in the day wasn't today's strokers.

Not too far, Pearland. (Edited: the Boss said "Stop bragging") Working on a couple of 750 ET bikes that I hope will be respectable. I may need some training canes!  ;D ;D ;D
Come on down, always keep cold beer in the shop fridge to boot.

Yeah that's only a few hours from me, used to spend a bunch of time in Clear lake few years back.

So I'm guessing that's the general consensus? Carillo's over GoldenRods?

Yeah One of the motors seemed to be from 69-70.. I think it was that one

Hey Trey,

My name is Chris and I have been talking to you about these motors via text and phone calls. As far as steakley is concerned the funny thing is that I have a 1967 C10. It has a dealership bumper that is labeled steakley bros, waco, TX. So that wouldn't be out of the range of reality that they would have done some machining for those motors.

Thanks for posting those pics Trey, that welded up cylinder block looks a lot more professional than the one full of sealant. If you use the Steakly one, you should get those airgaps welded. Cheers, Terry. ;D

And right before I called it a night tonight, I noticed a letter scratched under some dirt..

Cleaned it to reveal that this particular motor was in fact, owned/or worked on by Bobby Steakley..

Carrillo's are new tech and bullet proof, golden rods are old tech, can stretch and possibly have some fatigue after 30+years...
Sell some gear to finance the carrillo's , you may just make enough to buy one of Mike Riecks billet aluminum blocks.... 8)
