Hang on guys, before you blast me - I'd ask what you would do in a similar situation.    In fairness, I have not revealed any information about him publicly yet as I am trying to give the benefit of the doubt and trying to be patient with things.  I buy stuff all the time on ebay - all the time.   I am very lenient when it comes to shipping etc.   All you have to do is tell me when.  That's it.  I don't care if it takes you a week - just let me know.  It is a question I ask every time I buy something.  I've had really good luck over the years buying off ebay, forums etc.

I will agree that it is entirely my fault that I went outside the confines of ebay.   I got excited that I found something I deparately wanted and acted a bit too quickly - again, my fault.   Sunday, after a barrage of text messages between us ironing out the price, details etc., he texted me that he would ship it and provide me with a tracking number 1st thing Monday morning.  Before I sent the money his communication was very prompt. That's why I'm anxious.   Since I didn't get a solid answer from him, I started to dig deeper as I should have before.

Here are the facts:

He listed the exact item on ebay in Oct 2012.   There was negative feedback left for that auction and I quote:  "THIEF $600 tank never shipped said it was and then won't answer email-phone BEWARE"    Ebay only gives you recent transactions unless you dig a bit - again, my bad.  Ebay also will not tell you if a dispute was settled.

He changed his ebay ID in February of this year.

The photos that he used in both auctions are not his photos.  They are from the original builder - I have confirmed that with the builder.
The builder could find no record of him purchasing the item and I believe him as i have actually met him and purchased from him in the past.

We are both verified on paypal - which means our accounts are tied to bank accounts.  The funds were out of my bank account almost immediately.

Perhaps I am jumping the gun, but he has not done what he said he would do via text.

I have never complained in a public forum about something I have purchased.   I do understand that things happen everyday that could prevent him from
answering the phone, emails, texts or ship my item when he said he would.   It's just strange when someone will immediately respond to a question BEFORE you give them the money and then suddenly become hard to get a hold of after the funds are gone.

To me it appears he has done this before.  I would like that it never happen again.

I can not conclusively determine that he is a thief at this moment.  It's just that where there is smoke, there usually is fire.  If the tank shows up, I will post here and eat my share of crow.   And yes, I will apologize to him directly, even though he does not know of this.  I hope he would understand.

Ultimately, what I really want is the item that I paid for, though I doubt I'll ever see it.   Some people can blow off and absorb a $550 loss.  I can't.

I do appreciate all the comments here, good or bad.   I am not by nature a very patient person and this helps slow down a situation that I may be blowing completely out of proportion.  At least I hope that I am.

Hopefully, we can all laugh about it later, over a cold one.  :)

BTW, Paypal secures the funds from your bank account immediately but those funds don't clear and appear in the sellers account for a few days. The exception to this is when payment comes from a credit card. Might be worth confirming that the funds have cleared and been released to the sellers account.

All I know is:  The funds are gone from my bank account.

And I'll definitely enjoy a cold beer or five when this is done  ;)

Before you do anything with his youtube channel, you might want to copy his videos you mentioned, because he could always delete them if he feels the heat.  You can copy them using this website: http://keepvid.com/

I would also take screenshots of any other sites of his before he has time to delete them.

I'm not saying it's time for scorched earth yet, but I personally would make copies of everything I could before he gets a chance to delete some important stuff you might need later.

Hope it all works out before it comes to that, though.

I bought a SC engine from Greenjeans and he is a standup guy. It's one of those kind of things when there's just enough bells going off and you just have that feeling. I hope he gets his tank but I also buy a lot of stuff off eBay and sure sounds like a guy that tried to clip me about a year ago for a tank but I got lucky and smelled it out before sending money outside the system. I did a Buy It Now on his tank and was waiting for his invoice with shipping to pay. Either he or eBay actually cancelled his account before I paid so in the end I could not even leave negative feedback. He contacted me promptly via multiple emails explaining that his wife had screwed up their eBay account but he was still willing to sell me the tank outside of eBay and how he was willing to save both of us some money. His eBay account was GONE like it never existed but he still had a PayPal account ready to take the money. I emailed him back and told him I would buy it if he relisted on eBay but it never happened. Never heard from him again.

It's very hard to be patient when you just have that gut feeling. Greenjeans has been very honorable by not naming this guy while hoping for the best and expecting the worst. Again, I hope it works out and comes through.

Easy for some to bag on greanjeans to wait since it's his money and not yours. If it was happening to you would you be so patient as you are advising him, how long would you wait? Just how long a head start should greanjeans give this guy?

So, what's is been now? 4 Days?

Nobody is questing the integrity of greenjeans, but I would if he started publicly slandering and calling someone a thief without proof.

Facts as we know them.

Greenjeans purchased a tank from an eBay member on Sunday April 27th.
Payment was made throughout Paypal on Sunday April 27th.
Nobody can confirm when the funds where deposited into the sellers Paypal account.
Greenjeans expected and did not receive replies to messages or texts until Tuesday April 29th.
April 29th, Seller said he was packing the tank to ship.

Am I missing something?

Yes, the fact that he completely burned another ebay buyer for the EXACT SAME TANK under another alias and GJ found it.
And that tank had pictures from another builder confirmed by GJ and the transaction happened outside feebay.
Scammer radar perks instantly up for me.

I have sold tanks before and it is a PITA. I typically wait until the tank is paid for before even trying to find a good box to ship it in. Then when I do find one it is typically too big for priority 2 day or would cost a fortune....so I ship ground which takes over a week to go anywhere.

I hope for the best....watching.

Well fellas, it's time for me to eat some crow...   I just got a tracking number.   Still haven't talked to him to see how the old listing and negative feedback was resolved.  Tank is supposed to be here Wednesday.

I will apologize to him, but he doesn't know about all the hub-bub I mistakenly created.

And to the forum - I apologize as well.   I jumped the gun and started a sh!tstorm that was totally unnecessary.

You never crossed the line, so no harm, no foul!
You had good grounds to be concerned and the seller didn't help matters by going underground either. A tracking number is a good start but as others have said, let's wait till your tank is in hand.

Happy endings are nice.

Damn, I just saw this thread for the first time, so never had the opportunity to jump to conclusions like some of the other posters. I'm heading over to the Pissed off thread to complain.......... ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

I have been burned 3 times,2 thru e-bay and once out of e-bay. The once out of e-bay I found out where he was living and contacted the DA in his city, the office of Inspector General of his state, and the Post office for wire fraud since the money exchange was done electronically. I still lost 50% but he ended up with heavy fines and 3 years. So he must have had other things against him to end up with those penalties.
If you by a vehicle thru e-bay and e-bay says you are covered thru its protection program,Read the fine print!
If it's more than ten years old it is not.
I always pay PAYPAL with a Credit card. I never put my personal banking info online.
I thought maybe some of this will help some one avoid  a bad deal.

Well, considering the sellers is thankfully unaware of the "Lynch Mob" assembling in the bowels of the SOHC4 cellar, there really is nothing to gain by sending box full on ginch.

Sure sounds like you've received the "Royal" from online sellers.

FedEx website said it should be here Wednesday, but it just showed up!    Just like the photos and in good shape, well packaged.   I've talked to him personally and alerted him to the old feedback and apologized for getting so worked up.  He just said there are people out there that no matter what you do, you can't satisfy.  Pretty easy going cat.

Anyway -time to call off the dogs.  Again, I apologize to the forum for my cry-baby actions.

I've got some sympathy for the seller, not that I'm having a pop at you GJ. I sold a nine year old aria helmet once for good money, only for the buyer to complain that the interior was worn and he didn't think he should have paid that much. He asked for a partial refund to cover the cost of a new interior, which I gave him without argument. He then went on to give me negative feedback anyway and all eBay would say was that if I felt I had been slandered I should take legal advice! The lid was clearly listed as nine years old by the way, with a dozen high res pictures.

If the 'pissed off' thread had been around then, I'd have been on it. Not saying you shouldn't be alarmed when you see negative feedback, but it doesn't always tell the whole story.

I'm going call one last time and then I'll provide the ebay auction, photos, video of him via youtube, his email address, phone number and everything I have on him.  I feel like such a dumbass.

You should feel like a Dumbass! Look at your behaviour.

If this is the way you react when purchasing items online, especially from private individuals, I suggest you reconsider and go to the "Bricks & Mortar" businesses. I'm not condoning the sellers lack of communication or his previous feedback score but taking it to the level your suggesting had better be for good reason and I'm not talking about a minor shipping delay!

Stand down and pour yourself a stiff one.
Why do you always support these EBAY rip off artists??? You did the same thing to me when I complained about getting ripped off last year. A thief is a thief and they shouldn't be tolerated or coddled. I think these guys should have a finger cut off everytime they steal something. After ten times they won't be stealing anything anymore. Apparently you've never bee ripped off before or.....
