1978 cb750f3 too keep or not that is the question
« on: April 30, 2014, 07:09:23 AM »
Picked up this 1978 cb750f3 super sport 1100 original miles. It had a windjammer on it new with king and queen seet. Owner put it down and cracked windjammer and parked it in the barn. Carbs and motor turns smoothly. Don't have the seet and headlight and airbox.
I have 6 other projects. My question is this. How much is it worth the way it sits. Compared to if I where to return it relatively stock. Or cafe it out.
All opinions are appreciated.  Thanks in advance

It is not worth a lot. Maybe $1000 with a good seller.

Why did the PO destroy the decals?

If in your position with those other projects, it all depends. Do you have space to store it without it going outside? If not, maybe just sell it. Seems it's fairly complete otherwise beyond the items you mention. Going the cafe route seems like it would take more time and money than just getting it to fire up it then selling it, especially when you have six other projects to work on.

In the end, it all depends on how much you want it.

If I went cafe I'd end up keeping it probably anyway. Maybe ill pawn off my 75 750 on my buddy and put this one in its place it's in way better shape to start with.
I can store it inside but  room is starting to get scarce.

I'd pay $500-600 for it, if its got a title and the low mileage. Too complete to part out imho, missing parts should be easy enough to track down.

Is the super sport much better than the regular 75 750 I have?

It is a troubled child with bigger intake valves and known to wear out valve guides between 20 - 30 000 miles.  Also the power band is in higher rpms than regular K, makes them "buzzy" as Hondaman puts it.

If you don't have a lot in it and it has a good title etc I would go ahead and prep it up for a first start up and assess its condition. If the engine sounded good then I would patiently gather the parts needed to make it road legal again. How often do you find a bike with 1100 miles if that is correct and it will be worth far more if its ready to roll down the road for a new owner. in the mean time you may grow to like it and be happy you did not sell too quickly.

Are the wheels tubeless?  It would say somewhere on the rim.
