How to drill out 4-2 baffles?
« on: April 27, 2014, 08:26:44 PM »
Have searched around but haven't seen anything definitive. Seems like I should be able to drill out the three rivets and pull the baffle? Or do I need to cut off the end of the pipe? Want to open these up and let them breathe.

Drill out the rivets and remove the cap and see what's under it. Looks like the cap is part of the baffle.

All us old farts will tell you, it might run worse so try to remove them so they could be put back. Just in case your neighbors start chasing you down the street.

Yea I hear you Don. Us young guns run them wide open ;)

I have a 550 and 750 that I run for performance with open pipes with proper jetting and they rip. Have never modded a stock 4-2 so that's why I ask.

I drilled mine out.  Started by adding a couple of extra 1/4" holes.  Mine are so ratty that there was almost nothing left of the original wadding anyway.  I ended up adding four holes to each side and opened up the middle (but your baffle might be different).  I have also changed jetting and monitored the plug color.  I still have some suppression but a slight increase in volume.  I believe some back pressure is a good thing.  As for performance this was totally not scientific.  I could tell no appreciable difference in performance; but my seat of the pants is not calibrated that well!
