Replacement Case Serial Numbering
« on: April 30, 2014, 03:40:29 PM »
Hi guys,

A friend came across a CB750 K engine with a serial number of 8 digits instead of 7.   It starts with E21 and the 8th digit is a 2.  Is it most likely a K2 engine with replacement cases and the dealer added a 2 on the end of the serial number to show it was a replacement case?  Thought maybe that was supposed to be the procedure or something as it kinda makes sense.  Anybody know?

I had replacement cases installed while travelling in another state...................original cases were destroyed after the number was ground away........new cases were stamped with my original number.

A similar procedure applied to a replacement motor....in the case of shipping damage when new. The original motor had the numbers obliterated so it could only be used for parts...........the replacement motor had a different original number from the factory to keep track of production and quality control.
