Topic: Frame modification question.

Hey folks, I've been a lurker for a while but figured I should start participating. So here is my question:
On a 74 cb750k, what is the brace with the little oval slot under the seat for( see attached picture)? I'm assuming it is to allow for the wiring harness to pass through, but would like to know for sure. I'm building a very low seated brat/cafe hybrid and want to know if I can cut that away.

First build in more than a decade. I'm excited. My wife... Less so. Thanks for your time.

The harness only has a few wires at that point more so to keep the bike lighter

I had my frame powder coated and was very happy with results

Awesome. I just wasn't 100% sure that something important didn't connect there. Time to break out the cutting disk.

Frame is stiffer with it in there..

I figured that was the case, so I'll be welding in a lower profile cross bar as part of the seat mounting.

If you chop it out try to replicate it, same with if you chop that rear support, the flat boxy one. Replace it with something better that works for your frame/ideas. If you chop the rear shock part don't forget to leave space for tire clearance on bumps

You answered your own question mate, its a brace, so is the other one you are cutting off that mounts the rear guard, your bike will handle like a pig without them both and could even be dangerous, you want NO vertical movement in those rear frames, thats what the shocks are for....I add bracing to mine, not remove it.....

Thanks folks, I figured it was for strength, but wanted to know the purpose of the slot. It (and the rear one) will be replaced with something lower profile but more substantial.
