That's a good idea Joe, I have been searching the web and I see they still make the dual magnet rotor for a (cb750,cb900,cb1100). I wonder how much different the DOHC rotor would be in size?

I still think a modified unit from a Dyna2000 would do the trick in a worse case scenario

Do they make a dual magnet rotor to fit a SOHC 650?

I doubt it.. When I was on the phone with Dynatek yesterday he seemed to know exactly what motor I was using and said they haven't produced one of those rotor buttons in a long time. Didnt seem to think there were any other alternatives they could provide. He also mentioned why the 4000 uses dual magnets and that the single magnet rotor for a SOHC could be machined.. I'm probably gonna call them later with a few more questions.

Between getting Hilborn finished and finding some sort of head to use last minute, these ignition woes are really an added headache!

What was the explanation for the dual magnets?

DYNA4000 Ignition module has a timing coil inside that gets a pulse from the first magnet so when the firing magnet hits everything is lined up ready to fire

See if they will tell you the dimensions of the DOHC 750 rotor, particularly the back side where it mates to the end of the crank.

just need some dimensions from different rotors i guess...inside,outside,length and slot location...as long as the pickups are adjustable i would think you could adjust their location to work..

when i did mine i just laughed cause it worked first time and it was pretty hokey lol..can you say*back yard prototype?*

The DYNA-2000 rotors designed for the Honda DOHC motors are a direct fit to the 750-SOHC as advised by my inquiry to switch from an S-unit to the 2000..................ergo..........so many others should also fit ;D

The DOHC rotor button is only $60. I'll give it a shot. I figured it would really close if not the same

There again,as far as the DOHC 750 rotor goes,if the slots are in the wrong place in relation to the pickups i imagine you could just cut some new slots..i cut mine with a skinny hand file(super trick skunky works tool)haha

To be honest I haven't seen the backside of either so I'm not sure how they look or what would require modification. In theory it sounds like as long as I can get the rotor on properly I can adjust the plate if the timing marks dont line up at first..

The reason I first asked about a 650 is the back side is the same OD as a SOHC 750 where it plugs into the recess in the crank. This is the critical dimension.
From what I've read, both the 2000 and 4000 rotors bolt directly to the crank, while the Dyna S rotor replaces the point cam on the stock advancer, with the slots fitting over the cams on the advance weights.

In using the Dyna 4000, you can use either a solid dual magnet billet rotor that bolts in place of the stock advancer or you can simply use a Dyna S rotor button on the stock advancer as long as its a dual magnet button. You can also use a Dyna S pickup plate with the Dyna 4000 but you have to run a ground wire from the plate to the Dyna 4000 harness. Dyna also sells a special igniton pickup plate for the Dyna 4000 which will also work with the Schnitz Pro Series 2 ignition controller.

Had i known Trey would have run into issues of getting a dual magnet rotor for the SOHC, i wouldn't have pushed him to buy the Dyna 4000. The main reason for using a Dyna 4000 is he will eventually need the ability to retard the ignition timing with the turbo/injected set up and Dyna has a 2 stage timing retard that plugs directly into the Dyna 4000. With proper input controls to activate the retard box, he could pull timing out as needed down track when the turbo starts to make boost to avoid detonation. The Dyna 4000 also has a plug in for a shift counter that can be used to control engine kill time for an electric over air shifter as well as control kill/no kill for an auto transmission. The counter could also be wired to activate the retard stages as needed.

Bottom line here is the Dyna 4000 will serve Trey well in N/A and boosted applications without spending a ton of money he can use elsewhere on his project. Hopefully this forum can help him get this dual magnet rotor button worked out so he can utilize the Dyna 4000.

Trey, I got your bracket and shifter lever done for the the air shifter set up. You may have to tweak the tab on the foot shifter a bit to align the shift cylinder correctly to eliminate bind- it should be pretty close. I've located all of the air over air shifter parts you will need to hook this up with the exception of the air cylinder. I think you had one of those. There are a few fitting attached to the old hoses and the switching valve that can be used. You may need to get more air line and some new air line ferrels for the nuts to be sure the system doesn't leak. I'll put pieces of used hose in the box to get you by for now. As to the diagram to set up the system, i'll text you a picture once you receive the parts. I need to think about how to activate the kill for the Dyna through the micro switch on the air kill assembly- my mind is cloudy but i've got an idea of what to do.

Hoping i can get to the post office on time tomorrow to mail this box out. Its a tight window for opening times on saturday down here.

PS: I AM NOT A WELDER but i can do enough to make something happen. I violate a real welders number one rule- i do use a grinder to pretty things up a bit. Lol

No problem bud. We gotcha covered.

A few more parts for the box. You can decide which one of those shift button controls you want to use.

TREY: Plan on the race at MAN CUP RACE at MEMPHIS as the DA at this track is like ENGLISHTOWN NJ. on a cool morning a minus or 245'. Great track that IDBA had their WORLD FINALS for years. Watched the finals for PRO-STOCK CHAMPIONSHIP in the 1990's  between Dave Schultz and John Myers [ STAR RACING ] and Myers never lost a round that year and my son bets the BOYZ in the STANDS $600 on SCHULTZ to win, I SAID ARE YOU CRAZY = Myers RED LIGHTS and loses, my son the business man said = he had to lose sometime !!!!   Memphis might be closer than SGMP from Austin ??????

K2 Injected bike is on the sidelines still getting its Dyna4000 issues squares away.

Have been setting up the secret weapon: a K5 named "Ruby"

To appease the requests of some and to get myself into racing now, I decided to start from the bottom on this one.
Brakes have been updated, race seat, shocks,NOS RC Pipe, APE  extra plate clutch and cam chain tensioner,Dyna S with 3ohm coils, and a air over air shift set up.

Not sure what I'm looking at for time as our local track just closed.. But really excited none the less to get that first time slip!

Hah I wonder what a stockish CB750 runs in the quarter mile.

Hey Trey are you going to the giddy up show later on this month? My big bike will be there in a mostly completed form! Also I wanted to see if you had a junk set of exhaust you wanted to get rid of as I need something to help mock up my exhaust.

Yeah man I got a few exhausts you can use. How about some 4:4 drag pipes?
This new race bike is street able so I'll try to bring it to Giddy up. There's also a vintage motorcycle show here in New Braunfels sometime this month as well.

I'm thinking this K5 set up the way I have it should hit 12's but we will see. I have a 915 kit with a JMR head and RC 327 cam going in after we get back, I'm excited to see the comparison between the mild stocker and some good high performance parts.
