If I'm being honest all the way around I realized recently that I truly want to go fast. I want to feel thoroughly frightened when I crack the throttle open. I love CB750s to death and feel like I have a good advantage in bracket racing with mine! Once I dial this bike to a low 12 or high 11 ill be finished with tuning for speed and work on keeping it consistent..

That being said I am working on getting a 1000RR to play with for local heads up racing and eventually Pro $$$treet

There is only one turbocharged CBR1000RR that runs in Pro street right now and I've seen it put out a 6.98 pass @ Valdosta! I can't remember his name, but his dad used to race too if I'm not mistaken.

Goals, goals, goals. Reach high young man!!

The turbo Honda you refer to is ridden by Frankie Stotz. His dad set the bar for pro street years ago on a Honda. He stepped off the bike and put his son on it but they can't seem to sort it out well enough to truly be competitive in todays field given the current rules.

Honda used to  support them but I think they pulled the plug on all drag racing sponsorship.

I don't think Kent or Frankie were ever sponsored by HRC, if anything, they were sponsored by the Honda owners or riders club of America.

A OHIO BOY [ Scott Grigaliunas ] was the first sponsored HONDA DRAG BIKE racer in the USA from Kenton, OH and I know where both the 600cc and the BLACKBIRD are sitting at here in OHIO. Sad to say this man and his wife were murdered by his son [ 17 years old ] and a sad day in the 90's for his many friends in drag racing motorcycles in the USA. He came to NTR in Columbus for many test and tunes before the big IDBA races in my neck of the woods. Look it up on the net= just type in his name, best tow truck, best bike, best leathers, best trailer and dead on those numbers.

POPS BK911
PS...... He also drag raced a HARLEY DRAG BIKE !!!!

So I went out to TnT last night, first pass off the trailer was 12.96 @ 101mph with a 1.91 60'

Next two passes were in the 13s again but because of missed shifts between 4th&5th and my launch wasent near as solid as the first pass.

Sam mentioned my MPH seems pretty low for the ET. I'm shifting at 8650RPM and shift light in 5th comes on right before the big end

You should be at optimum rpm for that gear at finish, 8650 in 5th, or just use 4,or change rear to a 52, Bill
Oh, yeh, nice 1st pass, in the 12's! K,.

Thanks guys!

I have a feeling my lack of power is either in the carbs, the exhaust, or the fact that this motor is 40 years old and seems to have never been opened up so I assume the top end is due to be freshened up.. I still continue to set the bar for myself everytime I go out it seems. So I can't complain too much.

Now here's where I'm undecided.. I have noticed a few issues that are leading to at least a top end rebuild at some point in the near future..If I had the money I'd pull that motor and start working it back up while I start playing with a 1000RR.. I've been getting my SOHC parts collection together to try and sell as a whole for a set price. Along with a few other goodies. I have my heart set on trying the CBR1000RR.. So I gotta make it happen  ;D

Your heart and cajones may say that, and it's a great goal. But so much difference between launching 100 plus rwhp bikes and one making 40-45!!!  Be careful, get some local guidance please? Go see Tommy Bolton one day or try a buddy's big bike first. Trey, the telephone poles on the street outside RC's Gardena shop had names for a reason !!!! People who never rode a 100 plus rwhp Cobra lost the war with them,......many more than one!! You be careful, thanks, Bill

GREAT ADVICE.....BILL ;)

Trey........if you have a frame kit..........you could add 10 or more HP in a day or two by opening up the head and add a mild cam like a CX-2 or 41A............then while your getting used to that level of power send a set of jugs with whatever pistons you want to get professionally bored. Now you are on your way to preparing for another one-week motor upgrade........maybe 75-RWHP........and play with that for a while. Budget racing ;D ;D ;D WE ALL DO IT ;)  You don't need the expensive rods and new carbs to add a lot of reliable power to what you have.  Like many others have said............invest in SEAT TIME at each level.  This type of power build up would be like the sage advice 'ONLY CHANGE ONE THING AT A TIME' :) :) :) :)

+1 on the CONGRATULATIONS!! Anything in the 12's with that engine is quite an accomplishment.

And a +1 on the cam for your next step. Another half second maybe??

I guess this is just getting back to me getting impatient like with the turbo bike.. I changed directions and am having fun but I just don't see putting time and money into this bike to just gain another second on the ET.. I could spend the $400 for an 12" over extended arm, launch at 8k and get a really much lower 60'/ET just as easily.. But even then.. Just not sure what to do. The goal was to see what a stock 736 could do and I feel like I'm getting closer and closer to that point.

I'm just not sold on the cam, bore, or headwork money being justified to run mild times I guess

Well, I hear a Rajay calling!  Dude , come ride Purple Rain, bring fresh change of underwear! You can try in Valdosta, but I'd approach it cautiously! !  ;D Don't need no stinking , no soul modern bike to go quick, just more boost!!  8)
On first pass, minus the 2.1 turtle 60ft, it ran 9.3 in the last 1260 ft. 1.5 or 1.6 60 ft , you're in the 10's. Oh yeh it ran that 1260 time and popped out of 5th!! K, Bill

A cam's a couple Benjamins and some time. Cheapest and easiest way to performance. After that it tends to get pricey  ;D Loan him a cam Bill. It's fun..... but only if you have a frame kit  ;) Still part of the learning phase and you're doing great! Pretty impressive really - after your plumbing project  ;)

If anything I was thinking of getting a Cycle X sidewinder and lowering the bike a few more inches along with extending the swing arm..

If I have to do a top end job I'd prefer to keep the stock cam and find NOS pistons and rings or OEM replicas.. Along with a basic freshening up on the cylinder head.. Again.. I really just don't know what I want to do with the bike as of this moment..

Yeah, just doesn't seem to appeal to me. I'm going to keep this motor bone stock unless I do a full turbo- methanol injected set up. Then id go for all of that plus carillos. Even then though.. Just don't know.. Hundreds if not thousands of dollars to just go a BIT faster? just doesn't seem justifiable for some reason..I don't seem myself bracket racing this bike for the rest of my days, so I feel like serious money put towards it could be in the wrong direction from where I need to be.. Just talkin' though

Trey, be very careful about getting caught up in making one of these old bikes run quicker. I'm glad you're looking at this realistically and not getting caught up in the nostalgia of the whole thing. Sohc's are just that nostalgia and nothing more. If you want to go faster/quicker, spend your money a Busa, Gsxr1000 or a Zx14. Todays' technology versus 60's technology, uhhhhh. No brainer. Parts are readily available for the Busa as they've been around since 1999. Lots of research has already been done That RR has limited hipo parts sources so please be ware of that before jumping in to deep. The Stotz family spent a lot of time and money getting that bike to fly. They've got experience and backing. Without, there's no way he could run as quick. On top of that, their Honda is no longer competitive against the other bikes. Do your due diligence.

The factory backed HONDA BLACKBIRD sit here in OHIO at the home of a engineer from HONDA who was a friend of Scott's before he was killed. The FACTORY HONDA TRUCK a big black box van with lift tailgate is somewhere ???  I'll ask the SCOTT who bought the 600cc and the BLACKBIRD if he would sell that bike, he lives in Marysville but travels all over the world to HONDA PLANTS. A real factory HONDA SPONSERED DRAG RACING BIKE from the past.
Listen to FRANK unless they have a vintage class or SE class a stock 600cc will outrun you every time, was the bike that ran 227 mph at Valdosta a COPY OF A 1970-80-90 bike by any of the top builders= NO........... I'm wrong BUSA came out in 1999 and the first time you ride one [ BUSA ] down the 1320' with a slider TREY will be flying.
