Today I got to put the motorcycle jack I got for Christmas to use. Put my shocks back together and onto the bike, mounted the rear wheel and installed a new front sprocket and chain. Ready to tackle the front wheel tomorrow. Finally starting to resemble a motorcycle.

OTP have you restored the electrics yet? The panel behind the left side cover?
If you have do you have some photos?

Not yet Mick but it's one of my next steps. I've got a few small pieces I still need to paint and one of them is the electric panel. While I have the electrics off of it to paint I'm going to clean everything up on it it. Check out Sohron's 550 build he's got some pretty detailed pics of his panel on pg. 10 of his build.

Thanks mate, you've obviously spent more time searching the forum than me thanks for the link. Plus I'd forgotten SohRon's link.

I've got his build bookmarked for when I forget how to put something back together, haha. The pictures are so detailed and professional. It's like a step by step how-to. Even better than my factory manual sometimes.

Figured it wouldn't hurt to put on the rear fender and taillight. After a lot of deliberation I decided to go with a stock taillight over a Lucas for two reasons: with a bigger brake light the guy behind me is more likely to see it and I don't want to drill any extra holes into the fender.

I went to put on this grab bar I got that is off of a 550 and I found out it is just slightly too tight to fit around the frame to attach in the back. It's maybe 1/8 of an inch on either side. I'm going to try taking a little bit off either side until I can fit it but as of now it's too tight.

Got the grab bar on. Had to grind off part of the rear mount. You can see in the picture below the length difference on the CB500 grab bar vs the CB550. I couldn't use my original because it's not only rusted to hell but it also had a broken turn signal mount. I put a touch of paint on the rail where I ground it to keep the bare metal from rusting in the future.

After a year the carbs are back on with brand new boots on both sides. I just have to pick up a few bolts to attach the other part of the airbox, they were missing when I got the bike.

I got some new bars for it too, CB400f bars so they're pretty much pre drilled superbike bars that the stock hand controls will fit right in. When I mocked them up on the bike I installed the idiot lights with my reproduction instrument panel plate.

Most of the stuff should be easy enough to replace with just regular nuts and bolts. Might have to get creative making spacers and the spring clip.

Let me look in my mess. If I have them they are yours for free. I'm pretty sure I have the brackets that hold the air box to the frame. Text me if you would like. 414 339 4236. I can snap pics of what I got

If Nick or somebody at least has number 10, 11, and 12, get 'em.  They are pretty special parts and it will save you a ton of fiddlin' around...

Thanks Tews, let me know if you find anything I'd happily throw you a few bucks! I have the two brackets that attach to the frame (parts 9 and 11 in the schematic) it's mostly everything that connects the plenum and the airbox together that's missing.

What's so special about parts 10 and 12? Do they maintain a certain gap? The whole carb rack and air box were off the bike when I got it so I didn't know what all was missing.

they have threaded  tubes attached...they are easy to replicate if you have them to copy, but then, why bother.  It certainly could be done, just a hassle...oh yeah, went back and looked and #9 is a tricky one too.  No biggie, just a friendly warning.  I had trouble figuring it all out when I had all the factory parts and was the one that took it apart in the first place.
If it works good, it looks good...

Got lots of work done in the garage over the weekend. Yesterday I finished installing the rest of the airbox. After that I was able to sandwich it all in with the battery box and the eclectic panel.

This morning I got to work early and installed the right foot peg, kick start, brake pedal, brake stay and brake arm..

After that I went to setting everything up on the bars I reassembled the hand controls I had apart for painting and ran everything through the handlebars.

I also polished up the clutch and brake levers, put on a brand new 15.8mm master cylinder, and switched out my old dull steering stem nut and washer with new chrome ones.

Thanks guys! I just keep chipping away at is as much as I can after work and on weekends.

I'm going to try and work on getting the wiring harness back on as well as the throttle and clutch cables this weekend. I'm hoping I can hook up my exhaust, compliments of riverfever (thanks Chris!) once it gets here as well. I still need to sort out the the dual front brake, the caliper that came on the bike had a busted off brake bleeder I have to try and get out before I can figure out the second caliper alignment.

The to do list is definitely getting shorter though.

Need to give a big shout-out to riverfever for hooking me up with this beautiful stock exhaust and doing such a phenomenal job bubble wrapping everything up to make sure nothing got damaged in transit. Thanks again Chris, these are going to look great!

So, I'm running into a problem with getting the clutch to work. I've got a brand new Honda cable, an unbroken clutch lifter rod, a NOS adjuster and I have the ball bearing in place. Everything in the cover is greased, the cable is lubed and I put some oil on the lifter rod.

I installed the cable and adjusted everything per the Honda manuals instructions but When I squeeze the clutch in all I get is a lot of resistance. It feels like it's pushing on the rod but it's not engaging the clutch. Any thoughts, everything seems to be functioning properly under the left side cover. Is it more likely the clutch basket itself?

On a plus side, the throttle cables installed without a hitch.
