i have actuly newer used any brakekleaner in front..not any use on front breakes..but pump a lot of new brake fluid...through instead..and klean caliber mecanily instead
.uset it on back..to vash oil/asbest dust(if they are very old)..and to get it druy and klean at same time..

Any brake cleaner should do. Personally I like the stuff that IS flammable as it also serves as starter fluid if necessary.

I heat the rubbers that connect the carbs to the manifolds with a hair drier (you want warm, not melted, which is a risk with heat guns) and use a thin smear of lithium grease or PJ on the inside of the rubber. Heating the rubber makes a huge difference, especially if you are reusing 40 year old rubber.

Danny, next time (and there will be a next time ) try removing the carbs and intakes as one unit. Way easier! Just pull back and twist down to clear the studs and pull out through the left side. Installation just do the reverse. My intake rubbers have only seen the light of day once since I've owned this 550.

Well SUCCESS! It went together and I fired it up today! I'm not sure what fine tuning I'll have to do, but it held an idle and handled the load taking off very well! I am surprised at how well it ran for having sat since 1984. I have some overflow from one of the bowls. Thankfully, I followed someones advice and replaced all the Phillips screws with cap screws. Ill post some pics and a video later.
