Gap in airbox

My airbox has a gap between the two halves, even after I replaced the rubber gasket. Anyone know why this would be, and how I can fix it?

I actually had to put a couple washers underneath the head of the wing nut on the bottom of the air box. I believe the wing nut has too many threads and can't be turned in all the way to take up the difference. I'm not sure why this is.
