That master cylider circlip

For all those who hate that circlip--All of us i suspect-- the new part number for the original Honda tool (07073-300-01; 07914-323-0000; 07914-323-0001 for 750; 500; 550 repectively) is now 07914-SA5-0001 and is sold by www.cmsnl.com for 96.50 Euro not sure about anybody else.
Semi Geriatric ex-Honda mechanic and MOT tester (UK version of annual inspection). Garage full of "projects" mostly 500/4 from pre 73 (no road tax in UK).

Remember "Its always in the last place you look" COURSE IT IS YOU STOP LOOKIN THEN!

Man! For 96 euro you are better off buying a new master cylinder.

I have posted it before: I managed to remove mine by filing a cheap snap ring tool to size.

heck I just used some angled picks to get it out and that worked just fine.

I got mine out fine using a craftsman needle nose pliers but now i can't get the new one back in and it's driving me crazy.  anyone have a tip on how to get both sides of the circlip under the groove?  it's seriously the most frustrating thing i've ever attempted. if only i had an extra hand or two.

If you can get it started squarely in the bore, try tapping around it gently in small increments and easing it down the bore.
We'll all be someone else's PO some day.

Yes.  I agree with last post.  Just rebuilt my rear master cylinder today ['75 750F].  With pointy needle nose pliers, got the clip into the bore, then gently tapped it down until it clicked into the groove.  Messy, miserable job!

i worked on this for 3 hours without success.  i made a new art of swearing at inanimate objects. i'l  try tapping at it tomorrow.  thanks for advice.

Just remember, very small increments as you work around the clip. Good luck, let us know how it turns out.

That's $122 US!  Are they kidding?!  The Honda tool in question is made by Kowa Seiki, a longtime supplier of special tooling to the OEMs.  I would be *very* surprised if the tool isn't still sold by either Kowa or K&L.  In my view, using anything else tears up the parts too much. 

Just checked.  Go here to get it straight from the manufacturer.  About $40

This latter link is to K&L, a wholesale parts and tool supplier to the Asian bike service trade.  They do not sell direct, but one of their dealers is Old Bike Barn, and of course all motorcycle shops use K&L, so any one can get these pliers for you.   I can't check right now, but I would think that a Suzuki dealer would offer the best price.  They use the same tools as Honda and the other Asian companies, but their's are less expensive.  :)

Motion Pro, another major aftermarket tool supplier to the powersports industry, has a knock-off of this special tool for some 40% less, or about $26.  Check it out.

...as I recall, I got the circlip started and then tapped it in with a thinwall loooooong
socket.  You obviously want to make sure everything is clean..no gunk in the clip
groove..or you will be swearing more as you have to take it out again.  ;D ::)
