Could this be the cause of the metal in my oil pain?
« on: May 09, 2014, 04:29:49 PM »
I was going through the parts of the engine when I saw this on the cam chain tensioner.  Is this normal wear and tear or is this a sign the cam chain is loose or not properly tensioned and should I get a new one (not cheap BTW!).  I also noticed a lip or ridge on one side of the center gear shift fork.  I included pictures of both.

The cam chain should never touch the metal of the tensioner. Either the tensioner was installed wrong or the chain was slack.
It shouldn't need replaced.

'Then' and 'than' are completely different words and have completely different meanings. Same with 'of' and 'have'. Set and sit. There, their and they're. Draw and drawer. Could care less/couldn't care less. Bought/brought FFS.

Lester, you think the tensioner should be okay then?  Should I change the Cam chain tensioner blade which is only $40 as oppose to the whole assembly which is over $200.

Yes, if the blade is worn replace it. You only need to change the tensioner if it doesn't work anymore.

Does look like a pretty funky area up at the top of the fork   ;)  Lets see what the 550 guys suggest as to the cause.

if the bottom of the tentioner has been miscued and missed its little locating well it will rub on the primary damper/starter clutch housing like this one has been.
