What a pisser! Glad you are okay. For me - and likely for you and everyone else here - the way you come to know a bike when you build it from bits and that connection you feel with it are a big part of the pleasure.  Sort of the "build it don't buy it thing".  If you just bought it then it's just a bike you lost in a crash but if you build it you feel like someone cut your arm off.

Heal fast and get back on the horse.

Glad you're OK for the most part as it could've been a lot worse. Heal up quick!

Thanks everyone. Dust is starting to settle. Medical insurance is getting worked out via workers comp....

Bike insurance is yet to be seen. Made the claim, we will see how it plays out.

Contact two different attorneys, but was told I didn't have much of case because the severity of my injuries do not meet the standard of "threshold injuries"?..... What ever that means.... Driver also had Progressive, so not sure if that's good or bad...

Anyone got any advice when it comes to that?

Thanks again for encouraging words, that bike belongs to my five year old son, so I'm not letting them take it from me. A 2014 sure does sound good too, would look nice next 73.....

Well, you walked away...or limped away so count your blessings. Glad you survived as many do not fair so well. And smart rider with your helmet on too. Probably saved your life. Be sure you show all your receipts to the adjuster and estimate the hours of labor you put into that bike. I can remember when you first started on it. Let us know how you come out...and heal fast bro! Post up some pics when you feel better.

I saw in your thread and posts how long and  hard you worked on that thing.  Let me know what spares you need.  I have lots for a fellow Michigander.

What kind of insurance do you have? Full coverage? Can you get that on an old bike? I only have liability. Don't think that covers anything(bikewise) even if its the other drivers fault!
  Glad your alright!

Thanks Sean, I'll let you know when we get there, much appreciated;can't find a better group of brothers then on this site.  I actually have a roller that will be a cafe build some day that haas some of the parts I need. I do have collision on my insurance through Progressive with an "Agreed upon value" of $4000, which I don't know if they will accept...

What do people think is a fair market value in the mid west for a bike like mine. Let's call it fair-good shape, all original except the exhaust, and a good runner. I'm concerned with them trying to low ball me....

Very sorry to hear about this, GR750K3.  Hope you heal up soon, remember how much you went through to get that bike into better shape.

Ebay is probably a better gauge for what it's worth, but values of CB's have gone up considerably over the last few years, with a fair shape good running one being in the neighborhood of $2 - $2.5k.

sorry to hear brother, I had an accident in October, and thankfully I walked away, although the front end of my bike, frame, and engine were done for. the paint didnt get a scratch ;)

I have progressive and have a $5000 agreed upon value for my restored K1. the other driver was at fault, and progressive paid out my agreed value after totalling it. I bought it back for pennies too. I was able to get another cb750, and have money to rebuild mine. I hope your experience is as well.

everyone has said it but I will reiterate as someone who poured their heart and soul into restoring my bike.... YOU ARE ALIVE. you will get that passion to rebuild again. just make sure you get back on a bike as soon as you can, so you don't develop a fear. I still wince a little when I see cars pulling out from my right, I am working on being more calm and collected in those scenarios. God speed, brother

Thanks 121... That's my dream come true to total it, pay out, and buy it back. How did that effect the title? I'll keep my fingers crossed for that.....

In Georgia you don't have to title a bike 1985 or older. it's great, I pay $20 a year to keep it legal, plus my insurance. I DO have a title for the current frame, but I have not applied it, as I would have to pay taxes on it, so its best just to register it without the title here.

If you are able to buy it back the title should be labeled as salvage.

Is a salvage title still a road legal title? Obviously less attractive to buyers, but this bike is my sons birth right, so I'm not to concerned about that....

Check this out: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Salvage_title

Looks like once you fix it up you just have it inspected and get your title back. Probably should check with your state DMV too. But with as easy as it is to title a bike in MI I would expect you should be fine once you get the work done and inspected by a cop.

Glad you are ok. Totaled my truck last year. Other guys fault had Progressive and they where great to deal with hope you have same experience. Also in NJ with a salvage title the only draw back is you can't put collision on it again.

Sorry you were injured and hopefully you will heal quickly. You will need to see if the bike is totaled, maybe not. You are not totaled, so that is all that really counts.
