Adjusted my 750 cam chain tensioner and made a video.

Hey why not. iMovie on the phone makes it so easy. My apologies if this is too simple stuff.

Nice

It gives a good tip for moving the 15 degree mark. It is usually a fuzzy description, everybody usually talks about it a little different

Yep...good work!
Vid shows how easy it is to do.

(Assumption is made though, that the tensioner mechanism is not stuck in its housing.  Removal, as mentioned, for cleaning and lubing is suggested if its never been done.)

Definitely remove the housing. Mine has to come off soon to get to the starter motor. Just wanted to be sure I could then adjust it once I put it back on.

Yes, very good vid. Good idea to remove it for cleaning and checking, if not known to be good otherwise.

One shortcut is to stick a small screwdriver or short end of an Allen wrench in the hole. Then when you loosen the lock bolt, you'll feel the plunger jump forward into the chain. Caveat: don't maintain pressure on the probe while re tightening the lock bolt. The plunger should be allowed to find itself without  help.

Then if you want to add more there is the dimple that wears into the adjustment shaft from people tightening the set screw too hard and every time you set it, it goes back in the dimple without adjusting anything. The dimples can be filed out if done carefully.

Very well made video. I would just add a small point, which is to ensure that you do not rotate the crank in the anti-clockwise direction at all during the process (especially just prior to the 15 deg angle).
This is to ensure the timing chain is tight towards the front of the engine, and loose at the rear of the engine where the tensioner needs to take up its slack.

Does it really matter if it's on #1 or #4 compression stroke? Either way, one of the cylinders will have their valves open and will affect the cam. I think the important part is the 15 degrees past TDC.

Just spitballin.

I do think it makes a difference for getting the cam chain at its slackest position. Manual seems pretty specific on that.

And this procedure must be done before each valve adjustment.

Haha, yeah. Was doing it one handed.

I'm going to try to paint the block and fins on bike and definitely replace that cover. It's the only one not shiny right now.

And yeah the FSO came out spectacular. Full five layer process. Wet sanded and buffed. And the stripes are painted on, no decals. Got a great paint guy.

The reason is that when you adjust the valves the crank therefore cam must be in the correct position and if the cam chain is loose with too much slop it can cause the cam to not be in the correct position.

A small difference, but it does make a difference.
