Con Rod Torque sequence
« on: May 15, 2014, 01:11:50 PM »
  Hi all,

I had Mike Rieck install a set of stronger connecting rod bolts and nuts in my balanced and shot peened, 78' 550 rods. In the final email of talking to Mike, he mentioned to "tighten the nuts to 18.8 ft. lbs. in 3 stages". Can anyone elaborate on the process of tightening the nuts in 3 stages? I get torqueing and using a torque wrench, but it's the 3 stages I am unsure of. I would like to assemble the motor this weekend and I sent an email to Mike to clarify, but have not heard a response in several days. I understand he's probably super busy so I was hoping one of our other members can help me out.

Thanks in advance.

Kenny

Just use two other torque settings on your way to 18.8, something like 6lb/ft, then 14, and finish with 18.8, or whatever your heart desires!

Ahh, I assumed that, but wanted to make sure before I screwed something up. Thanks Brent! Always good to hear from you. Good luck on the VRRA season.
