I've been looking to buy a gallon of motorcycle specific oil(I like that it has the extra additives for the clutch, gears)for my bike 10/40.The price of oil  ::)   I don't want synthetic, just some good 10/40. Hey guys don't break out 'the popcorn thread' OK ?  :D
The closest stuff I can find for my search has been standard Kawasaki 10/40 oil, 1 Gal. for like $22+ tax and I guess that's not too bad, considering the price of oil.....
It seems like we all must be paying OPEC for Sadaam Hussein's 'oust'  >:(

Sorry man, Valvoline VR1 SAE 20w50 with all the goodies in it doesnt come in gallon sizes   ;)

What are the benefits to using a racing oil versus a regular "street legal" oil?
The Valvoline VR1 Racing & "Not Street Legal" racing oils contain additional additives for increased horsepower and reduced friction on metal parts, provide extra wear protection for high compression/higher horsepower engines, and include fewer detergents than regular conventional motor oils.
What is motor oil with zinc?
The anti-wear additive simply referred to as zinc by most car enthusiasts is actually short for Zinc DialkylDithiophosphates or ZDDP. Its primary role is to prevent metal-to-metal contact between engine parts by forming a protective film. Despite being referred to as zinc, this additive actually contains zinc and phosphorus, with phosphorus performing the anti-wear function in the motor oil with zinc.
Is VR1 a conventional oil, a synthetic or a blend?
Valvoline VR1 racing oil is a conventional, non-synthetic racing oil
What solutions does Valvoline offer to the zinc issue?
Valvoline offers two solutions to the zinc issue:
Valvoline VR1 Racing Oil: Contains 75% higher zinc than SM motor oil with a balanced additive package designed to work in both racing and street-legal applications. This product will protect older style push-rod and flat tappet engines. Valvoline provides this product in both multi and mono viscosity grades: 20w50, straight 50, 10w30, straight 30, straight 40, and straight 60.

Hi flybox1,
I guess the Kawasaki 10/40 standard oil is the only option I know of so far...
I'm not sure what they mean by "racing oil" of today's standards, from what I can remember of the past(and that's getting 'less' quite often) 'racing oil' of the past was only good for 1) hard race session then was meant to be changed out for fresh,I'm not quite sure about advertisements & such. That's why I just want some every day standard 10/40 motorcycle specific oil,I thought the gallon size would save me something.I'm just running Penzoil 10/40 lately at $4.50 a qt.,  it sure isn't like 'the old days'  :)
Oil prices have gotten crazy over a few years

I dont gravitate towards the 'racing' on the label, nor do I care who the manufacturer is.
I just know that less detergents and more ZDDP is good for our engines, and the VR1 fits the bill.
