Rejoice with me, for I have found a transmission
« on: May 15, 2014, 04:10:57 AM »
OK, this is not about motorcycles, well to some extent it is.

My Jeep transmission - Borg Warner WC T5  - kicked the bucket at 300 000 miles and yesterday I bought New Process 435 from this old timer in MD. It will take Novak's adapter to marry it to Dana 300 but the final solution will outlast me.

With the old timer we talked jeeps first - he had two CJs parked in his yard, together with a mix of other vehicles - but when I mentioned old Yamaha he had there too - just frame and engine, we got to motorcycles and sure enough, he has 1975 CB750f, parked since who knows when, next to it HD that was produced only a year or two, his daily rider was a small newish HD, he has 2007 Honda CBR900RR for the need-for-speed moments and he is fixing 1976 Moto Morini.

Oh, I forgot 2 stroke Yamaha in the shop.

Nothing beats talking vehicles with an old timer.  ;D

I believe the translation from Latin goes something like this, " O rejoice and bless thee thy transmission so it may propel you in the ways of the Lord."

What in carnation is an old timer doing with a modern CBR?

1986 CJ7.

That Willys looks clean, still needs a rebuild?

I had an offer few years back for Willys Jeep Station Wagon, you know the first SUV :), for $200 or less, but I turned it down - did not have the time to spend.  It was just body, frame and wheels, the main temptation was the open choice of engine and drivetrain, but I could not commit.  Sometimes I have self control. :)

I am not sure, my 300 is in great shape, only the transmission needs replacing.  I saw 176 + 300 combo sell for 580 on eebay.

I saw it from the back door of walk in van, while the bike was right behind the driver seat, from googling now it could have been the XR.  He was calling it cafe racer.

No, I couldn't imagine anyone over the age of 40 or even 30 wanting to ride a modern CBR or any other back-contorting race bike without having a chiropractor on speed dial.

This 51 year old would, my kids cbr600 is an absolute blast to ride. The only thing keeping me from getting one myself is that I'd get into way too much trouble with the law with one. The only issues I have with it is that after being used to my 750 is when I hop on the cbr my feet are always searching for the foot pegs and having to get used to the brakes.

This 56 yr old sadly parted with his CBR 929 last year - financial crisis. Still have the RC30 though !  ;)

First time ever buying from either of them.  Novak has excellent customer support - and it is a czech name too :)

Now I think I need to spend $230 on 435 rebuild kit - you know, just to do it right:)
