Roof is done and tested, we had a major storm pull through yesterday.   Speaking of which, I looked up pictures of Lake Travis, you guys could use some of our rain.

I disassembled the transmission yesterday, unlike the original T5, the replacement 435 is build like a bulldozer and quite the pleasure to work on.  I had to grind a puller to get front retainer bearing race out, but since the how-to asks for machinist I fell pretty good about meself:)

Now I need a bearing separator and assembly lube and I can put it back together.

We had about 4" of rain over Mem Day weekend, the lake came up 5' [big news here]. But, it is still 30' below normal, we need a Tropical Storm.

Good progress on the trans....impressive work Sir!

The transmission spilled guts in an hour of enjoyable effort.  Everything is solid and well made and big.

To remove the bearing race from the  front bearing retainer, Novak suggests special puller or cut out the race with carbide drill to release the tension.  I was able to grind a puller to fit under the race and it worked well.

Notice how massive the race is.

Comparing the old needle bearing to the new one.  The old one is needles and nothing else, the new one has plastic cage holding needles.

I think the old one is better, but I will not take my chances with used bearing.

That was all yesterday, today I washed the case inside out with gasoline and chased all the threads with a tap.
I was also able to find transmission assembly lubricant at NAPA, but the bearing splitter I need for the input shaft is still evading me - Autozone, Carquest, Bumper to Bumper, Sears and a local car parts store - nothing :(

Maybe Harbor Freight has it and I should pick up a shop press too, the bearings are beyond the power of BFH.

My oldest daughter will help me with the assembly, she  is heading to college for major in aerospace and mechanical engineering this  fall and wants to spend summer wrenching - quite fine with me  ;D

;D Usually not this bad, but the transmission is bypassing K3F and all the empty space is just full of stuff.

I wish I didn't.  I am so far behind on everything  >:( - and there is K3F standing and waiting  :(

But yesterday I was able to drive the bearing in and install the race, the original idea was to get a shop press from HF, but they did not have one in stock.

It actually worked fairly well, I used the old bearing race and a piece of pipe to drive/hammer the bearing on.  Replacing Timken with set Made in Japan, the original bearing was in good shape, but since the transmission is all disassembled and the kit had a new bearing, I decided to replace it to be on the safe side.

Two parts I seen for the first time, axial needle bearing and a special locking ring to hold gear on the shaft.

Clutch disc needs to be 1 1/16" 10 splines instead of 1 1/8" -  using one from 93 Mustang, the rest bolts on.
