Except, they probably are really rare, expensive, and hard to find.

Anyone ever ridden one? How are they for tall riders?

I was talking about the FZR 1000, but the FZR 600 at the right price I would pick up.

You know, I actually like those colors in the eBay link...it will stand out and turn heads!

You may have heard that they've found a vaccine for AIDS.

They gave it a Yamaha part number and now no one can get it.

you would be better off with the 1000 especially if you are tall . i real nice bike probably the first modern superbike as we know them today . over here they have
very little value for some reason [ £750 - £1200 for a good one ] but i expect that will soon change .

God that 1000 looks SO minty in the link. I think they are beautiful looking bikes...before sportbikes got all "pointy" and overly agressive in the rear.

I especially like the body fairing....how it's "larger" and completely flat on the bottom.

Another thing I like is the front cowl--it's the best I have seen to date and just speaks with the bike's language.

Anyhow, just sharing that so far, that's the only sport bike that has peaked my interest!

Simon, i find it hard to believe you never rode a 1980's GSXR1100 {or 750}, they were without doubt the first modern superbike.... 8) ;D ;)   The FZR was rather heavy by comparison.... {ridden both} ;)

Ducati 900ss. Pre 1998 model.

http://www.motorcyclespecs.co.za/Gallery/Ducati%20900SS%2091.jpg

1. It's a Duke
2. It's air cooled.
3. It's 2 valves. So we can do all the adjustments.

Not rare or expensive

have to disagree with you mick , the fzr had one of the first delta box frames that are still the standard design on modern bikes today [ hence my quote ].
the gsxr frame was just an alloy version of the older steel framed bikes that went before it .
have riden plenty of gsxr's but never one that handled well .

I was talking about which one was considered the "first", you only had to be around when the Gixxer was released to know the Gixxer clearly was the first modern superbike, they changed the way all manufacturers made their "superbikes". I understand what Simon is saying about the deltabox Frame, but i wasn't referencing frame types, Iwas referring to his comment of which was first..  Simon, it wasn't hard to make the Gixxer handle , new rear shock and better rate front springs, block off the antidive and fork oil and they were pretty damn quick, did you ever see Aussie Ian Pero race his 1100...? ;D :o

They were only raced here for a couple of years until the 1000cc limit came into force, the 1100GSXR's then put on weight for the next few years until the newer GSXR1000's came out completely redesigned. Ian Pero left Aus to race his 1100's in the USA.... ;)

I have a 86 750 GSXR with a Penke shock, Race Tech emulators, and RT springs.  I have raised the clipons about 10 mm and lowered the pegs 18 mm.  I won't say it handles better than a 90's sportbike, but at street speeds it is a comfy ride.   Works well on the wiggly roads.  It is fun to ride ride.  200 mile long ride is my limit tho.
Brakes are OK with braided lines.  Better than my 73 750, but not even close to a modern sport bike.
Mine is not very pretty like the Yamaha (painted flat black!!).  I would love a RC30 or RC45,  but I cannot afford those bikes.

have always liked the look of the fzr but for me it hurt my neck having to look up.  As far as 90's sports bikes go to me at least this takes the cake ( my 98 r1 )  but im a bit biased, my belly sits nicely on the tank, fairly aggressive riding position but i find its comfortable, once i get my legs stretched enough to put them on the foot pegs. if you give it a serve the front wheels skims across the road and everything except the little bit in front of you becomes a blur.

Well, I have a chance at a local FZR 1000. I F#$@ING HATE blue….and it's blue. But beyond that, it's an FZR 1000!

27k miles.

So far, looks like it needs a new ignition (it was stolen in the past), stock air box, carbs to be gone through, and some tuning.

Any FZR experts see anything out of the ordinary? What's a bombshell price to pick it up for?
