1977 cb550k shift fork
« on: May 16, 2014, 06:12:41 PM »
Hey all,
Back again and starting to rebuild. Issues when it came to the gear shifter fork under the clutch cover.

Here's what I have:

Here's where it's going, top center:

But it doesn't go all the way in. It juts out more and it feels like it's stuck. I can keep cranking at it and it starts going in further, but it feels wrong, like it's stripping the thread.

I'm 99% sure I have the right bolt, since I slid it in that piece when I took it out, and haven't touched it since. I don't remember it being this difficult to remove, and I definitely don't think it's sinking in right. Here's a shot of it before removal:

Anyone have any idea what I'm doing wrong? Wrong bolt? Not enough torque? Should I just crank it all the way down? Am I missing a spacer or something blatantly obvious?

Thanks everyone.

that's not a shifter fork, those are inside the box and move the gears sideways, thats the shift drum stopper plate, that bolt should be a 6mm by 32mm,dont force it!be sure the blind hole is clear of debris packing up inside.

Thanks Dave. I cleared it out and made sure the bolt threads were clean. Just had to torque it a bit more and it felt like it went in clean. Weirdest thing though when it wouldn't sink.

Now I just gotta get a new can chain guide. Mine bent from sitting out in the atmosphere. Guess I should've stored it in oil?
