Topic: HIT BUMP- - - ->KNOCKED OUT OF GEAR!!

Hi All,

     I've got a '74 CB750 K4, about 24,500 miles.  To best of my knowledge, all stock.

     When I hit a bump that is somewhat more than normal (I know; whatever normal is), my bike is dropping out of gear and into a neutral........

     I watched my boot and it is not hitting the gear shifter, so that is not knocking it out of gear.

     Thoughts?  Is this a clutch adjustment problem or (Good Grief Gertie) a clutch rework problem?

     Will be glad to listen.........

OK, I may be a littel off target here, but on my 500 and
I assume most SOHCs there is a spring and pawl mechanism
that holds the bike in each gear. Does your shifting seem
"too easy" all the time? It may need a lookey under the
clutch side cover, behind the clutch basket.
If the spring is broken, it should be pretty obvious.

Hi Jack, not seen much of you of late.

Another possibility, in the end of your shift drum is a screw that when fitted has to be peened to the plate on the end of the mechanism.
Check it's not come loose.

     I will check out both possibilities this weekend by giving things a look-see in the clutch area-thereabouts.............(what's that sonny?).

     Sam------------> I have been doing so many things and working incredible amounts of overtime that I haven't had energy to do much of anything at home except eating like a horse, then laying around and falling asleep like an old dog..............., in fact, come to think of it.......... in dog life years.......... I'm dead.........

The good thing about working nights is I get to be on here (not on line at home).
I have been known to come in at weekend in the day time to see whats afoot

all the shifting mechanisms on the 750 are under the left (sitting on the bike) side cover. I would check there before pulling the clutch out. Good luck.
