Topic: Wheels finished at last....

It's been a long journey but finally got the wheels finished. Let me know what you think about the drill pattern I decided to go with on the front disc.

I like the look  but wonder if it'll grab too much. The smaller holes in pattern may allow the pads to slip across the surface without acting like a cheese grader. I suspect there will be short pad life and possible lock ups and wash outs.....hope not. Like to know how it works for you.

That is extremely aggressive.  It looks supercool, but I think you may actually sacrifice braking performance (due to lack of surface area) and that the abundance of large wholes may cheese grate the bejeezus out of your pads quickly.  Let us know how it performs. Be safe.

Unless the pad flexes it should never grab, it is supported on both sides of the big hole.

I thought of the cheese grader effect and the lack of surface area, but you'll never know if you don't try it. Also the bike will be a "Sunday driver" once finished, so hopefully I won't run into a situation.

To answer the tire size question, it's a standard size 100-90/19 Avon.

Looks familiar.   

AS to surface area, the way it was explained to me by a hydrulics engineer on this forum: the MC creates so much PSI. And transfers that down the line simutaneously. That pressure is not lost just because it lands on less surface area. The surface area that does exists takes it all. So there is no loss of braking with bigger or more holes. There will be increased wear, heat, and such as there is less area to absorb and distribute the heat.

AS to cheeze grate effect, I don't thik that will play either especially if the holes were chamferred. And everything is done properly, no sharp edges.

I've often wanted slots in my discs, and those seem to work too, so you'll probably be fine. Go easy at first and see how the work out. The discs definitely look unique and pretty cool.
