CB550F Muffler replacement.
« on: May 20, 2014, 07:24:44 PM »
So my old stock (Sankei HM390 2005 replica?) kicked the bucket, it literally plugged itself with it's internals and was creating so much back pressure the bike was running like crap. Unfortunately the muffler collar is rusted to hell and the whole thing can't be reused.

I'm looking for a bolt on (or close to. no welding) solution that will look good with my stock F pipes.

My personal taste is that I want a round can style short muffler.
I like the Shorty cone from Dime City and love the stainless/brushed chrome look.

Anyone have any experience with that muffler? How's it sound on a 550? Does it need a better baffle?

I don't mind a snarky tone, I just don't want it to sound like open headers.

Any other shorty style solutions people like?

I'm about to buy the 12" "shorty" cone but I don't know what hardware it comes with, if any. I need some sort of angled bend to bring the rear of the muffler up a tad but can't find any prefabbed pieces :|

Then the clamping devises.

Don't it comes with anything, I'd give them a call and ask what they suggest.
Then find a local welder to fab it.  Pretty basic, really.
