I took my cylinder head into a machine shop to get the valve seats recut. One of the cylinder's valve seats are pretty pitted, so I was going to have them all redone. The machinist said he wouldn't do it. He'd have to take off too much metal and that it would give me problems up on top where the tappet screws would have to be adjusted beyond the limit. The pitting doesn't look all that extreme to me. I really want to avoid paying out the 200.00 plus that these heads are going for on ebay. Is there another solution to this problem? Can't the ends of the valves be ground down a little to compensate for the valve seats? Or is that just crazy?
I'm starting to think this bike may be a lost cause. Someone give me some encouragement, or a new cylinder head.
