2002 Harley FXD Primary Oil?
« on: May 22, 2014, 09:54:13 AM »
Hey guys, anyone know FXD's? A buddy of mine has a leak in his primary cover and we just removed the derby cover and there's very little fluid in there. He doesn't have an OM and I'm trying to find answers online but I'm getting a lot of mixed answers. What is the right oil to use? Is it ok to mix what's there with the new stuff we get?

Also, anyone have a link to view the OM for this bike? Not easy to find.

Thanks guys!

Do some research,  a lot of the primaries got oil thru the pump, hence little oil at one time. Some folks sealed them off, then added. Oil into the chaincase.
Some don't like the clutch and chain wear particles going into the motor oil.
Not sure which way that model is set up.
