AARGH FOOTPEGS!

Do any of you fine gentlemen and women make a simple internally threaded full cylinder heavily knurled non hinging footpeg?


I have a 78F and I'd like to find a way to replace the passenger pegs (which is just held on by a bolt.) This one I would want a bit long to act as a engine guard)  I'd also like to get some for the front set, but those should probably be folding. The stock 78 system sucks. And I really want to do better.


What I remember from taking it apart last time is there there is a rod that goes across to both sides if the frame. Sadly they made the really stupid mistake of not having a threaded rod go all the way across, but decided to use a really long bolt.


So better question would be-- does anyone know of the correct threaded steel (or aluminum, i don't care) to make the shaft, then does anyone make here locally, or do you know aftermarket footpegs that aren't pieces of #$%*.

Threaded rods are available here:

The reason there is a bolt not threaded rod is that the threaded rod would damage the hole it goes through.  In mechanical assemblies it is the good rule not to have thread that is not used, sometimes the holding part of the bolt is within close tolerances too - hard to do with thread.

BMX stunt pegs? I would imagine the quality ones would be up to the job.

There IS a reason for the Honda design.
If the foot peg gets damaged they wanted it to be removable and if it was too strong it would bend the frame which is only 1/16 inch thick.
The originals lasted 40 years at least so I do NOT think they are !@%@%^^p
They were also folding pegs to prevent injury unlike the Triumph heavy steel foot bars that were non folding and broke many riders legs.
I lived through those nasty years before folding foot pegs.
Frame sliders were made to protect those cheap aluminum frames of the sportbikes and all of that plastic transformer plastic stuff.

Thanks everyone.




To be completely honest, a bit of frustration mixed with an Ambien haze in the middle of the night prompted this post :) I honestly don't remember writing this.


It also prompted me to buy a 78 cb750A left control switch (really hope the wiring is the same as the 78F), some new progressive front springs, and a new clutch cable, according to my email this morning. It's all stuff that I needed, just wasn't planning on getting it now.


I really gotta put the computer down after I take Ambien
