Tacho/Speedo rebuild.
« on: May 24, 2014, 08:12:07 PM »
Hi. I am in the process of rebuilding my gauges and do far so good. Gauges apart and happy.

Before I reassemble I want to 100% sure I don't need them apart again!

I do not know the history of the gauges but have been assured by PO they are fine.

Questions:
1 is the oil only for dampening or does it cause gauge to work

2 Or is gauge magnetic driven and oil only dampening.

3 what speed does tacho and speedo actually turn at to give full deflection?

4 where is my 10mm ring spanner...

Thanks in advance.

Paul

Hi Paul,

(1) Oil is for the dashpot and only for damping. No oil just means that the tacho needle may bounce around a bit. The oil/dashpot acts as a signal filter, thus smoothing out any oscillations in the needle.

(2) Yes, it is magnetically driven from what i can tell.

(3) There should be some calibration numbers stamped on the gauge housing. Like 60kms/hr is xx rpms or something to that effect.

(4) Where you put it last

I forgot to add, DO NOT get oil on that magnet!
