Color Blind? are you?
« on: September 18, 2006, 07:43:44 PM »
I just saw this comment in another thread.
"Make sure you have a wiring diagram, but again, the wiring is all colour coded.  Green to green, blue with brown strip to blue with brown etc."

And I had to laugh ;D      Why,  I'm color blind.
......... I need my wifes and my daughters help all the time ::)

For the non color impaired  "Wiring Diagrams are not FUN" ...think about it for a moment, ....no color/bad shades, .....

I wonder.........how many of us are here ?

Ha! My dads color blind and he did the entire wiring of our house,  (A lot less complex than a bike, but I am still impressed).

Speaking of color coded diagrams, serveral of my wires were the wrong color due to some "ghetto modification" by some idiot before me.

I think I am slightly colorblind..  I fail the tests so the eye doc tells me I am colorblind, yet I can see and distinguish colors..  Not sure what that means.

My grandfather was color blind, but I'm not.  My mother had to sew little tags into all his clothes so he knew what to wear.

Thinking along those lines, I just spent a week down in WVa working on a bunch of school HVAC systems.  I noticed that the wiring harnesses on most of the <recent> mechanical equipment is wired with one type of wire, say red, with a little number sticker-tag to identify and cross-reference them with the wiring schematic.  I bet you can get sheets of those numbers at an electrical supply house.  Then, anytime you work on the wiring, add the stickers as you go and cross-reference them on a copy of the schematic. Or make it a winter project; pull a connector, clean it, identify it and reconnect...

80% of blue-eyed men have some form of color perception deficiency.

At hockey tryouts i mistook dark green for black jerseys on Sunday and blue for light green.

so...I don't do wiring....not on my stuff anyway. Zzzzzt!

Same here. I'm told I'm brown/green colorblind. I can see both colors fine but I can't pick out figures on their test cards. The only problem I've had with it is that camoflage clothing is very effective against me. It also makes it hard for me to see deer in a field. Good thing I'm not a big hunter!  ::)

The official descriptive is 'colour deficient' not 'colour blind'. Guys are way more likely than gals to have it. Oh joy.

i sometimes wonder how much the "guys have it more than girls" is a newspeak type thing....the less colors you "know" the less you can see them.  my wife knows a million different colors that i refer to as "blue."  they spend more time looking at and thinking about color and, therefore, have a greater perception of it.  it's like a forest ranger looking into the woods as opposed to me, they see a million different things and i see trees.

probably crazy, but i got to reference 1984.

Guys are not worse than women at colors! They just like to say we are. We say it is pink, they say peach and whatever other colors they think of.

Women have multiple shades of black while men have 1! Blue is blue!

I'm color blind. When I joined the Navy in 1974,I wanted to be an Aviation Mechanic. They tested me and said no way...you wont be wiring up our planes. They have those pages with all the different colored dots and there is a number in the middle.Out of about 20 pages,I saw about 3 numbers. They changed me to a Hull Technician instead(welder, pipefitter).I can still do electrical but if a color throws me off,I have to count on an ohm meter to make sure I have the right connection.
