Hi there have a 75 cb550f and 9 times out of 10 the bike starts and runs well but once a blue moon when i turn the key on and go to start the bike the starter works and turns over the motor but it will no start and when that happens the oil light is off?Once i wiggal the wires and turn the key on and off the oil light will be on and the bike will then start right up?Any ideas on what will make the oil light not come on once your turn the ignition on?Where should i start to look? Thanks Mario

I would be looking at the ignition switch  ;) One of the wires may be getting loose/going bad in the back.

I did look at that and I shook the wires at the switch and at the plug where it connects and I could not get the light to go off and on.Any idea on what gives power to the bike to make it spark,as in you can turn the key on hit the starter and it turns over but no spark?I did find the wire where the bulb gets pushed into the cluster of dash lights if you move it around the light would go on and off? Sould the oil light bulb have anything to do with not starting? Thanks

Check your kill sw. All it does is kill power to the coils but the bike will crank. As ekpent said the main sw. is the problem a lot of the time. The next time it does it leave the key sw. set just like it is and see if you have 12 v at the coils.

Will replace the ign switch today and will look at the kill switch.Just seems odd that it will not start unless I see the oil light on 1st before I start it,what would that light have to do with not getting power to the coils?

The light and coils obviously have the same power source, and something is getting in the way of the power supply, be it a crook fuse, bad switch or broken wire.

Oil lights will not prevent a bike from starting that I know of.
