Hello all

is there any one that has experienced with a honda 1990 cb125t twin

i have one with a dying cdi

could any one help please , i need to use a pair of generic 5 pin cdi and make it work in place of the dying oem

way too expensive for this model.

What country is it from ? I know Made in Japan by Honda but wondered where you sourced the bike from ?

i am trying to look for a cdi solution though , its a honda oem japan , i am in california usa and i got it off

The OEM CDi is very expensive new? it's a 1990 and it could be that someone may have a known good one off of a used bike somewhere else besides the USA. Was the bike available in Europe ?

There are Japanese online auctions, one is probably the same as e-bay and it is called ok shon of all things.

I looked for it but I guess things havbe changed or something. I knew people who were getting stuff shiped a few years ago, but some threads say you have to have an agent now, or worse, ripoff likely.

Maybe a cdi off a rebel 250 or similar twin might do the trick to make it run. Must be a bazillion of those are around with no better use.

After reading various materiel on line , i have come to know that these 1990 honda cb125t were shipped from japan
to usa for purpose of training riders and thats about all i can remember , so they could have a unique design
some of them had multicolour shift light bars mounted in front so trainers could c what gear was the bike running on
the rest i guess is history !!!!!
So theses bikes have a unike cdi with 8 connections which seems to be un common with other twin honda models
and the oem that was available is close to $200 if one can be found
any ways there is a member that i was able to pm already and he does have a generic solution and i hope v can
get it to work

I'm glad to know you won't give up until you find a solution to that problem

I wonder if you had to, or if it is possible to swap an entire ignition/elec. system from another bike(CB250 nighthawk,etc.)that is used and you would get a good enough deal on it ?! I'm also curious if the reason the CDi unit has more 'pins' on the connector are for those extra indicator lights that you've described for the driver training students

I want to ask if you could try to upload a picture or two of this CB125T onto the forum here so I can see it ?
You have been working on a solution to this problem for quite a while,haven't you ? !
I'm glad you're getting closer to fixing it and Then finally,getting much use out of the bike.

That's a very Sporty looking CB125T and I'd like one myself ! The next picture of the CDi box,are you now able to buy a good one 'on sale' in Japan ?

No that was a classified add 2 years old , but i do have the oem thats dying / dead already so the replacement is urgently needed

I have a 1977 CM185, will check to see if it has a cdi. if yes,
could you check to see if it is something that would work for you?

Did you ever get your running? I have two that seem to have rev limits, do you know if they were built with rev/speed limiters because of being training models? Because there is no tach I can't tell what RPM it starts to cut out at but I would say around 3000 and both bikes are identical in this sense so I don't this it is a bad ignition model.
