On Yamaha XS650's the two crankcase drain plugs have a magnet built into them.

Real novice comment hear, but just asking the question.

When doing up my CX500 there was lots of talk on the forum of motors that had blown because the oil bolt washer was missing and the holes in the bolt would get restricted of oil and starve the engine.

Could there be a risk of this happening using different size magnets and the holes being restricted?

The magnet will not attract aluminum. On the other hand aluminum is softer and will cause less wear than steel. Dan

Totally different thread than I was expecting, great info and I'll be doing it soon, but since I didn't see anyone mention it, the first article I read about using HDD magnets on a bike, was to attach a few to the bottom of the bike at a low spot as an aid to tripping the sensors at stoplights. Supposedly it's very effective. Think I'll be taking a few old drives to the rifle range, total destruction is the only true security.

I've seen Dave enough times to call him a friend mate... ;) His wife said he can be the man as long as he likes, as long as she wears the pants.... ;D ;D :o ;)
