I'm Havoc from Grand Rapids, Michigan
« on: June 03, 2014, 05:33:24 AM »
Hello everyone.
New guy to this forum. I've been a motorcycle collector/rider for a few years. I've mostly been into buying and trading bikes. But this time I picked up a bike that I may keep for awhile.
It's a 1980 cb650 custom. I don't know if I was looking in the wrong section but I couldn't find much on this bike. But either way I'm making it a true custom by making it a bobber. I've always liked the look of bobbers and I knew I wanted to build one myself. I picked this bike up from a friend for pretty cheap so I don't feel bad cutting her up. It will be a lot nicer when I'm done than when I picked it up.
Sorry I don't have any pics yet, but I didn't think about it before I took her apart. I've already started the Bob project, so I'll take pics from here on out. If anyone wants to point me in the right direction for this project let me know, thanks!!

Hello from Michigan, I'm in Lowell.  My wife had a 82 cb650 a few years ago.  When working on it, I found it's just over sized big brother of the cb550.  Nice bike, we sold it a couple of years ago for extra cash to buy our house in Lowell.  I'm in the process of restoring a 75 CB750 for her as it's replacement.

We'll be at the Gilmore show (http://www.gilmorecarmuseum.org/events.php?s=vintage-motorcycle-show-swap-meet) this weekend  on YAmaha xs650s, a 78 green stock, and a red soft tail bobber.  This is the best vintage bike show in the state, I never miss it.  We'll be riding there with these guys http://www.vintagericeburners.com/.

Your just a hop, skip, and a jump away. I was thinking of going to Gilmore's this weekend too. Maybe I'll see you there.

So is the 650 frame the same as the 550 frame?

I don't know about that...   I just remember reading that when I read about the history of the model.  I've never owned or worked on a cb550, just read that the engines are very similar
