Picked up the wheels this evening. They look so much better when spinning. The guy that did them for me said the rear was all over the place, which I noticed when Cycle Gear was balancing them. The front has what looks like a low spot, but really isn't. At some point in its life it appears to have smacked a curb and pushed in the outer lip and flared the lips outwards from each other. The inside area where the spokes are is still true. He said that he worked the wheel a bit and got most of the lip back to where it was supposed to be. He also balanced them and there was a dramatic reduction in weights required to get them to balance. I think I am going to be happy with them.

Now to figure out the carb.

You sure the stand pipe does not have a hairline crack?

The 'ting' test

(a small tap on ea. brass tank while holding the float by the center hinge part) to each little brass float 'tank' w/ a coffee stir stick is very 'telling' for me.

The ring that it has will resonate differently between ea. side if it has fuel inside of either one;but you can't be 'tone deaf' otherwise it won't work.

Figured out the carb leak today. Looks like I might be in the hunt for a replacement bowl unless I can figure out a way to repair it. I filled the bowl up with gas and let it sit for a while. When I checked it there was a tiny amount of fuel on the overflow tub that comes out of the bottom of the bowl. Wanting to see exactly where it was leaking from I plugged the hole in the pipe that is inside the bowl with my finger and blew some compressed air into the overflow tub. I instantly saw the bubbles. Nothing like 42 years worth of galvanic corrosion to make a pin hole.

Thought it was a stand pipe problem, Seal All may work. I'll check to see if I have a spare float bowl in my 350 pile of stuff...Larry

Looked up the tech specs on the Seal All. It says that gasoline breaks it down. Seeing how it will be submerged in it I don't think it will work. Another suggestion has been to braze it. I like that idea, but I don't think my mini torch will get hot enough.

there was a thread where someone found a brass tube at a hobby shop that perfectly fit over the stand pipe. Forum member Jim French could fix it for you if necessary. I haven't had a chance to go out and check my reserve supply...Larry

Can't you just put a bit of solder on it? Shouldn't need much at all....

Bring it to a craftsman/artist who understands how to heat different metals and let him use his smallest torch tip to braze that area;it'll work Harsh

Better yet, send it off to be micro welded. Costs more, but last indefinitely. And holds permanently.

Cal,He has it so very well prepped already braze will readily adhere to both those surfaces.

I think I am going to send it off to one of the members here that does micro welding. I think JimF is his user name. I need to send him an email and see if it is something he can do. The different metals might be the only issue.

I tried heating it with my micro torch and it didn't even remotely get hot enough.

I can just imagine the look on a jewelers face when you go in and ask "Can you please braze my carburator float bowl?"..... Ha!

Picked up a new carb pretty cheap so the leak should be fixed. Waiting on a few parts to arrive because the wife changed her mind on what she liked...go figure.

Other than that I haven't had much time to work on the bike because I had to go to the great white north. I can officially say that my relief is in the house. My daughter graduated bootcamp last Friday and is down in Florida for her initial school. She is going to be a jet engine mechanic.
