Painting SL350 Headers/Mufflers
« on: May 23, 2014, 04:18:27 PM »
So I'm about to wrap up my patch work on my SL350 exhaust pipes.

I was initially thinking to get them ceramic coated, but no one in my area does it.

I notice that there's some "1200F" paints that I could use, but I'm wondering if that's good enough for headers….

I'm wanting a long-term and nice solution. Semi-gloss black, just like they were originally. Don't want to be polishing them, or seeing and chips or other issues.

So what do I do?

1200F is more than adequate. Doubt it ever gets over 600.

Try VHT, kind of a ceramic hybrid for the diy'er. http://www.vhtpaint.com/products/flameproof/

Hmm.

I'm too worried with using rattle can stuff. It may work, it may not work.

Fee seems small just to have it sent somewhere and done with a warrantee. Been having issues trying to find a place that will do it. One place said for me to stick a magnet up to the mufflers and pipes. If it "sticks" that they can't ceramic coat them. I don't understand…..I thought steel can be ceramic coated.

I tried the VHT without clear coat on a muff, it did chip off after a few months
