Excited to see how the bobbed rear fender will look. Is it from Carpy? I'm thinking of going with the fiberglass one that he sells.

Also, how did you remove the center stand? When checking out my K7, it looked like I had to remove the swing arm in order to pull the center stand.

I was actually just going to bob my factory chrome fender and see how that turns out.

Center stand removal was super easy... remove the cotter pin that holds the axle in place, then just bang out the centerstand axle from the left side of the bike towards the right.  Disconnect the J-hook that holds the spring to the chassis and your good to go.  (not sure if other years have different setups of course... )

Cool. Was considering doing the same until I saw Carpy's option. Thought it'd be nice to save the original fender, but you'll have to let me know how bobbing yours goes.

Will do!

I'm not sure how feasible it will be to save the original finish on the fender when the cutting wheel gets to it.  May have to sand it down and paint it to match my tank and side covers when I get to that stage.  Never have been a fan of chrome on bikes either way haha

If you tape the line where you are going to cut with good painter's tape, the finish should be ok. (Mine didn't chip at least) I ended up doing it black anyways though.

I was debating cutting it at the part closest to the bike to retain the rolled edges but it looks like cutting from the rearward edge would be the best option for mounting properly.

I too was wondering how it would look with the rolled edges up the sides and then stopping at the rear. Actually looks great if you take your time cutting it.  I would not mess with cutting rear edge if you are worried about proper mounting. I wish I would have thought of that though, as my rear mounts had been cut off by the P.O. And I had to make new anyways.  Good luck, and of course, post pics!

Thanks Davez! Could you measure the overall length of that just to give me an idea?

That does look nice, Davez. Any photos to share of it on the bike? Like Prez asks, some measurements would be great.

I would definitely agree that if is easiest to retain the stock mounts and bob the fender from the trailing end with a steady hand and a cutting wheel.  If you are going to paint it, then you will have even more forgiveness with the cutting wheel.

Great pictures!!! Thanks for the info also.

I tried taking my bike by the local shop yesterday only to find that they were closed for the day.  Sucks because I had a friend drive his monster F250 with a utility trailer about 45 min to get to me and another 20 min to the shop only to find that the doors were closed.  Thats alot of diesel fuel wasted haha... I'll probably rent a U-haul trailer for $25 tomorrow and swing it back up that way.

On a positive note, my seat came from Motorcycleseatsdirect.com today!!! Alot earlier than expected.  It looks damn good and I look forward to swapping the hardware on to the base from my spare OEM seat when I get home.  I'll report back on fitment.

I'm also going to have my hand at re-installing the exhaust tonight to see if I can get the #2 flange to fit before I take it to the shop.  Still very curious as to why the bike wont start with the new exhaust/filter setup.

Heres a quick picture of the new seat:

Did you try to start without exhaust on ( or without being fit properly?) I wasn't clear on that by reading your posts. That could cause it not to start. Also you may have to mess with idle mixture ( though I'm not really familiar with PD carbs)

Didnt try starting it with exhaust off... Tried starting it after installing exhaust and pods (#2 flange isnt secured but pipe is in there). Im gonna let the pros mess with it for now.

Still needs a bit of an adjustment at the hinge but this will certainly do just fine :-)

That seat looks sweet, Prez. If I didn't have my original seat redone, I would definitely go for a similar shape. Fits very nicely with the 77/78 tank (which is the coolest tank shape of the CBs, in my opinion), & will look even better once you get the chrome trim lined up.

As you're probably aware, switching to pods & changing exhaust may increase the complexity of the system too quickly. Better to give Davez's advice a shot first; take one thing at a time.

Looks like you're getting closer & closer to the goal of streamlining this thing though. I think it'll be a cleaner, modernized version of the original, which I love.

Damn.  Being the proud owner of a 77 CB750K7, I would have to disagree, but beauty is in the eye of the beholder!  Such is the reason I swapped to an F-style tank.

That said, this combo looks good!

Bike was dropped off at my local shop Friday to get some odds and ends buttoned up and have the carbs tuned for the new exhaust/intake.  I told them I need it back in two weeks.

After i got the bike home from the shop, i just parked it.!

Carbs have been cleaned and rebuilt but one is leaking. A bracket was made for the Carpy 4-1 and the front caliper was rebuilt.

I need to order a new brake line, tune carbs for new exhaust setup and a couple other small items and that'll be it for this winter (unless I get frisky). I'd like to ride it springtime as-is to get a feel for it.

I can tell that the new seat will be too low for my height. I may go back to the stock seat and look into having a custom seat made into the style of the Vietnamese seat but higher.

Nice. I assume the leak on the single carb is just from float height being off. Still really like Carpy's turn signals that you got. Saving a pic of your bike with the new signals so I can install some on mine this winter.

No progress yet as I'm having too much fun playing with my 8 month old son  :D

Managed to buy a new tank on Ebay as I've found myself drooling over some of your builds on this site and figured I "needed" it.

Since I already have aftermarket rear blinkers and brake light/tag holder on the bike, I'm not sure what seat setup i'm going to go after should I choose to run with this tank but we'll see.  Is it safe to assume that if I wanted to run the tank, simply swapping on a F seat/base setup would work? My wife really wants me to keep the rear seat for the time being until we get another bike so I can take her for a ride from time to time. Maybe if I found a F seat setup and fit it to the bike I'd get a better idea if I like it or not.  The aftermarket seat that I got from Vietnam is too low for my 6'6" body to sit on it comfortably... It'll be for sale soon.

I have a 77 CB750K bike with a F tank.  Mine, however, uses a custom seat.  The F tank WILL fit right into the mounts but I'm not sure if the K seat will need some adjustment.

I've gotten the itch to start fiddling with this thing again.  Having kids really takes time away from garage play time but I'm at it again.

Carbs need to be looked over and jetted/tuned
Front master cylinder and brake line needs to be assembled/bled and hooked up to tail light
Steering stop needs to be adjusted so that I dont mash up my hands on steering lock
And I'm sure a bunch of other stuff

Called two shops today about working on carb tuning.  Both claim they can get the pods and exhaust to work just fine without having to resort back to factory air box... we'll see. Both shops prefer to retain the points ignition because they find it more reliable than electric (I was shocked).

With the rough quotes i'm getting for tuning the carbs (from $400 and up depending on issues they run into when they dig in) I may have them install more of the parts I have laying around.  Unless they can return the bike to me within three weeks, I may have them hang onto it over the winter and bang out some of the larger jobs including bearings install, brake upgrade, wheel/tire install/upgrade etc.

Wish me luck, I'm really hoping to get some riding in this year before the fall.
