Modern controls..Stumped.
« on: June 16, 2014, 06:03:38 PM »
So I'm trying to wire in a set of cbr600rr controls onto my cb400f. For some reason I have not been able to get the headlamp working. Wondering if it has something to do with the start stop switch? Theres no power at the black and yellow H/L main power wire.. Also the start stop witch has a feww extra wires over the original cb400f controls.. and it firgures that my original cb 400f h/l stopped working this week as well..

Any help appreciated!!

Here's the factory diagram in color. The black wire is switched 12v reformism ignition switch to head light switch.

See if this helps-

Here some photos. I believe the only out of place wire on the start/stop switch is the blue/white.

And on the dimmer switch I have a ground ( I think) that is not listed on the wiring diagram.

Here are some shots of the bike

When my K0 controls fell apart, I retrofitted 2004 R6 controls instead. I had to add a wire to headlight switch, because R6 has low and high beam side by side.

All you need is an ohm meter to figure out what switches what and little patience to wire it up.

Nice pictures btw, thats gonna be one sweet bike.

When I wired up my R6 controls to my 400f I used a relay. Not sure if it was because of how the wiring was or if I wanted to reduce the load in the switch. I do remember some of the R6 switches not being compatible with the stock look which is why I created my own.

I think maybe the R6 switch is a single 2 pole switch and the 400F is a 3 pole. Could be wrong though.

If that's the case then the switch isn't a direct replacement but you may need to employ a relay to get it working.

If I recall Honda color coding correctly Blue/White is power to the high beam & high beam indicator. White is to the low beam. There should be a hot black wire to the headlight switch. There should be a high, a low, and a wire to the high indicator at the switch... for the CB400

Looking around a little online I am having a hard time finding a CBR600RR diagram I can read the colors on. Do you have one? The blue/white may be the power to the headlight switch from the kill switch? Not sure if these bikes have an off switch for the headlight on the throttle side in other countries or not.

Doesn't the 600 switch have a "pass" function? If so, that Bl/Wh may be the jumper internally for that operation.

There is no one of switch for the headlight as far as I know.

Cal. I do believe is has a pass option.

Here is a diagram for an '05. Think that carries through til '08

Parkwood. On the cb400f the hot wire to the h/l switch would be black/yellow. And I believe the h/l power from the starter switch is black red. But I seem to be getting bower to neither of those. Possibly because of the starter switch. Tonight I will try hooking up the original switches.
