Temp variations on exhaust cb550f
« on: June 01, 2014, 07:47:40 PM »
I was trying to figure out why my bike was sounding a little off.  Out of curiosity I used a IR temp gauge.  No matter when or how I tried this, 1 and 4 were 15-20 degrees cooler than 2 and 3.

1977 cb550f stock jets, modified k and m pods, and this muffler I have no clue, baffle is missing.

It dies run rather well otherwise, just is this timing? could that coil pack just not be sparking enough?

Things I have done: all plugs gaped according to manual,  I did do the timing on it recently, changed oil.

At a loss to explain this one. lol

These bikes run better with backpressure from a baffle, and the pods are not helping.

When was the last time you gave it a full 3000 mile tune up?

Cyl 1&4 running slightly cooler is normal since they have more cooling fins.

I didn't do forks, and that was last month.   I checked the points and they looked good.  But, if its normal, I won't get too worked up.  lol

The forks are being dne this winter.  so far they are not loose and ride well.  No leaking, yet.

I modded the pods by finding some pvc that fit inside them and was the same thickness ans the carb bodies.  They all stick out into the pod a bit to help with airflow.  I just got stock airbox pieces in a deal and trying to go back to that.
