Off roading is great fun and a good bike riding learning experience, even when I got into road bikes they always found their way onto an off road track of some sort. The GS1000 was felt to be a bit heavy for river crossing. My next project awaits ( I wish I would buy something that goes) it's a
400cc Yamaha twin shoehorned into a kwaka 250 trail frame, should be good for bush bashing, and the odd hill climb.

Oh yea, I'm asking about 4 wheels. I run a Fiat Spider in CSP.

Hell yes, I used to run Solo2 from 96 to 2004.  I currently don't have a car suited for auto-x but I'm trying to convince my boss to run his 240z next season.  We might be able to run the last event, it's in October.  I started out in G-stock but I sure the class names have changed. I then moved up to STS and STX when they came along.  There wasn't too many people in this class when it first started, but now it's the biggest class at any event.  Later after more performance parts made it on the car, I moved to ESP.  Unfortunately I wasn't competitive enough with my setup, too much turbo lag and wheel hop it was set up for the street as opposed to auto-x......FWD turbo :(
I think all in all I had the most fun in the stock class.  The times were always close and there were better drivers, the oldtimers who stayed in a class and really took it more serious.
My ride was a 95 Eagle Talon TSI FWD.  It was a great time and look forward to getting back into it soon.
What region are you in? NWOR/CENDIV here.
Peace.

Well i have only done one or two Secret street events up here in canada in my old Cavalier but i was hooked from that night forward. My current Cavalier Z24 will most likely see yet more upgrades during the winter. It already has been fitted with 16" wheels and lowered 2" But this winter im doing some brake upgrades as well as more suspension upgrades. Aiming to hit the track again in 07. Hopefully i will have my K4 ready to roll by then as well...damn these hobbies are addicting but hard on the wallet lol.

I'm in the Blue Ridge Region, Southeast Division. http://www.brr-scca.org/
Ran many moons ago, 1978 with a then new, X1/9 Fiat.
Got back into it a couple of years ago with a 78 Fiat Spider,
the wife and I were rearended in the 78 and I hunted for
replacement and ended up with a 80 Fiat Spider, first year of FI.
In the stock class (HS) it would have been competitive if there were
some DOT legal autox tires to fit it, the 5 1/2" by 13" wheels were the
killer. Just changing wheel size automatically bumps it to CSP.
Since I was gonna be there anyway, CSP that is, I set the suppension
up and I'm running wider 13" wheels with khumo 710's.
Tires are the biggest improvement you can do, and to be competitive
around here you got to do it. ST classes are limited to street tires
with 200 or above treadwear. Probably the best tires out there
right now for that class are the Hankook ventus R-S2.

The 240z would be a great car to set up. Hope you get to run it.

Here ya go. This was couple of weeks ago. Won my class and was 5th overall out
of 120 cars. Pretty good for a 26 year old car eh? (I run CSP which allows suspension upgrades,
but the engine must be stock)

As near as I can tell, your Cavalier would be either ESP of FSP.
I think it could be competitive for sure. First thing is tires, then springs, shocks, sway bars.

Is the Cav rwd? If so what is the weight? If you want some "opinions" on spring work
I can offer a few.

The Cav is FWD. And i just weighed it tonight actually lol... it came out to 1400 kg with driver and 1230 Kg if i remember right with driver. I used a set of Cannuck motorsports lowering springs bringing it down about 2". Used my current shocks and struts for now but soon to be installing KYB GR2s. The Eagle wheels shown in the pic will be replaced with some lighter Motegi RT5s in the same size.

Hey Dave, get that Vet back out there :)

FWD's are tricky to set up, particularly for me :)

You'll want to stiffen the rear end and put a bigger sway bar on the rear.
If it isn't LSD I'd lose the front sway bar to start (if you have one)
Your trying to keep traction on the front. a front sway bar will cause inside
tire lift in the turn for you I'm thinking. Increase your front camber too!
(oh about 3degress negative)

Mine is the opposite, I run 500lb rate on the front and 200 rears and a big
front sway bar. All designed to take out body roll and keep weight on the
inside rear tire in a turn (i run an open diff too)
I don't think you'll won't to reverse this. Try about 500 rear and 400 front
maybe to start. I'll ask some FWD drivers at the next event and find out
their spring rates.

Koni sport shocks are the way to go, save your pennies don't waste your money on the kyb's,
kyb's are okay for general street usage but won't handle the higher spring rates.
