Intro: 1974 CB550 in Atlanta!
« on: June 12, 2014, 01:07:37 PM »
Good afternoon all!

Two Saturdays ago I waited until after the deal was done before telling my girlfriend about this 1974 CB550 I found on Craigslist.

The PO was a 22 year old who had rebuilt the bike and was selling it because he needed $$ to build a race car. She had 9,776 miles, looked clean, ran well, and didn't show any stripped screws or other signs of inexperienced tinkering. His garage was spotless and he talked like he knew his stuff, so I offered cash if he was willing to ride it from his place in Dawsonville, GA to my house in the city of Atlanta. He didn't even flinch at the idea of a 30 mile ride, which further indicated that the bike was a runner.

We settled at $1800. He threw in a toolbox + 2 helmets and rode the bike back to the city for me while I followed behind and almost had a heart attack when some bonehead in a Ford Escape nearly painted the guy and my soon-to-be-new CB all over I-85.

I've spent the last two weeks reading this forum (awesome!) and getting out on the road as often as possible. My only other riding experience was a Yamaha Virago 250 in college, so this 550cc feels brawny in comparison! Anyone in Atlanta want to ride?

Winner! Winner! Chicken dinner! Great looking ride and great story. There's heaps of folks in your area. It won't take long til they're dragging you about all hours.

"Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of it's victim may be the most oppressive. It may be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated, but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience." - C.S. Lewis
