Gas resistant Engine Painting
« on: March 06, 2018, 12:30:49 PM »
Hi everyone,
I'm currently in the process of rebuilding my CB750 Engine and it needs to be repainted, is there any place that sells a high temp 2K aluminum colored paint? Don't wanna go with the usual VHT paint that dissolves immediately when gas spills on it.
My other idea was using the usual aluminum colored VHT rattle can paint and using a 2K Clear coat on top, but would that give me any issues?
Nick

If you have had VHT come off with a gas spill, you didnt cure it properly. It only becomes gas resistant (not proof) once it is cured. That can be done in the oven or with a few heat cycles from running the engine. Im not sure if 2K clear is high temp enough to stay put on an engine.
All you gotta do is do what you gotta do.

+1. I've used VHT on a few engines and really like how it holds up to the accidental spilled fuel once cured. I cure mine using the heat cycles running the bike, so I'm just very careful to check nothing leaks before starting.
