Noob from Wa state
« on: June 07, 2014, 06:45:58 PM »
Just picked up a CB750 today. No title, but guy said it's a 1974. Frame number 2519xxx makes me think it's a 1975. Complete minus the left side cover. Doesn't run, yet. No spark, appears to be due to lack of power to the coils. Kind of blind fumbling until I get a service manual. Suggestion for a good manual?

My plans are to vintage race this one. I know, it's too new for ARMMA rules, but the WRMMA guys I saw racing didn't seem too concerned about being all period correct (were CR specials around in the early 70's, ha ha). I just want to get on the track and have fun.

This is my 2nd bike build, and my first Honda that doesn't have knobbies.

Welcome to SOHC4. Whats your born on date? Should be on the right side of the neck. There should be a month & year of manufacture there. The VIN # is there and should be stamped into the frame on the left side of the neck. The 750 K changed between 74 & 75. You can mix parts between the 2 but each year came with differences. The 74 gas petcock is on the right side of the tank and the 75-76 is on the left and is a different design. The side stands are different. The 74 and below turn signals are smaller. There are other differences also. You need to put up pics when you have a few more posts because most people here like to see what you got.

I'm on Whidbey Island. I read new members couldn't post attachments until 5 posts in. We'll see if this works.

DOB is 9/74. I'm sure that means it's a 1975. Petcock is on the left.

Yeah usually (not always!) it breaks in June......1 to 6-74 is a 74 and 7 to 12-74 would be a 75. Its the same with cars but cars have born on date on door pillar and year model under the hood on engine sticker. Besides the exhaust your bike looks like its all there. Has the larger turn sigs. and one hell of faded paint job!! Mine's a K5 also.........got it for my 43rd birthday in Wyoming....4-4-2000. Bikes may come and go but this one is a keeper.

Yeah it says you only have 2 posts but the picture posted? I went to Whidbey Island in 1975 when I was in the Navy. I was stationed in San Diego and I'm from the bay area in Cali. So I was taking a military hop (fly for free) for the weekend. After leaving San Diego we went to some base in Arizona back to Cali (Lemoore Naval Air Station) and then up to Whidbey Island. From there back to Mt.View, Cali (Moffett Field). So to fly 500 miles from San Diego to bay area was 5 hrs. I never got off the plane but I remember my ears popping like hell flying over Oregon.

Nice bus in the background. I had many veedubs over the years. Just a 58 oval left that I'll restore someday. 74, 75, eh, doesn't really matter to me. Just happy to have a complete bike.

Welcome.   Do you have a good, fully charged battery? Need it for spark.

Good, fully charged, probably not, but I'm just checking power not trying to make it run yet. Need to look at the wiring diagram more. Power goes from keyed ignition switch thru fuse to yellow and blue wires to the coils? Voltage at the fuse, not at the coils. Maybe some connections or safety switches where it's loosing continuity. Some PO wired in blade type fuses, could be I'm loosing it there. Just need to spend more time tracing and pulling out 40 year old wiring.
