74 CB550 Gas Tank
« on: April 15, 2009, 03:35:55 PM »
Hello all,

I am currently putting a 74 CB550 back on the road. The bike is in decent shape but needs a few parts. The bike had been stored and neglected in a barn for years. A friend picked it up for free to use as a parts bike but soon realized it didn't need much. Long story short I picked it up for 300$ (CDN). It turns over but needs carb cleaning/adjusting tuning, a new chain and a new tank.

The tuning and chain are no big deal. I am wondering what the price range will be for a gas tank. I am new to vintage bikes so I apologize for what may seem like NOOB questions.

If anyone has any insight it is much appreciated. I hope to get this classic on the road in the next month or so.

Cheers,

Lorenzo

Those tanks are pretty expensive in Tierra Del Fuego, I hear.  :-\

All the K model Cb500/550 tank are the same shape and use the same fuel tap from 71-74.  Colors vary.
The 75-76 550K model tanks are the same shape and mount, but have a different fuel tap selector arrangement.

You could post your needs in the parts wanted forum.

Or, search Craigslist...

Then there is Ebay...

If you are patient, more will be listed eventually.

I've got two tanks for a CB550 for sale, each for $50.00 (plus shipping).
Here are some pics:

Tank # 1

Tank # 2

Let me know if interested.  I know one tank is from a '76; not sure about the other one.

Thanks for the replies so far.

I am located in Ottawa. Pretty much all I need to secure is a tank (preferably without dents) My brother in law does body work/paint so I am lucky in that regard.

As a newbie I really appreciate the feedback. Thank you all very much.
