My bike has more balls than me, it took me two years to actually hit a ton.

My traveling speed is typically 60 to keep the engine (4200 rpms) happy, but local roads here are dangerous.  You never know when you clear a hill and there will be tractor, truck, log or a minivan.  Trying not to go where I can't see too fast. 

But for bigger roads in our area I like to stay in empty space - means to push 70 plus. Northern VA is crazy like that.  If you are slower, you will have somebody on your tail all the time.

Us "flatlanders" here in the South suffer to a greater degree. Interstate traffic here often flows 80 to 85mph thanks mostly to long, straight, and relatively flat Interstate Highways. A "friend" of mine has traveled sections of I-75 and I-95 through Florida running 85mph, keeping to the far right, and has covered stretches up to 30 minutes (forty miles) without passing another car, while being passed by others. Part of this I believe can also be attributed to shrinking budgets for law enforcement agencies that ultimately leads to fewer patrolmen and more lax enforcement as a result.

Where's there's room, the CBR 600 does well at 7700 rpm/85 mph or so. No mirror
fuzz, foot peg buzz, hands numb, just a nice fast cruise, and the engine likes it. 
It's judt starting to breath at that rpm..That's usually what traffic is doing, and its on the interstate, outside town. On the 750, hilly backroads, following groups of harleys is nice. Usually around 65-70
mph, occasionally up to 80/85 on the straights. Nice scenery, and releases stress
very effectively.

I will blast along at 70-75 on a highway to get to the roads I really enjoy riding on.  On those roads I just cruise around enjoying the scenery and the quiet. Stopping and takes some pics.

I do have these moments where something from my past kicks in and I will run it up to the ton, for the rush.

I do agree with the original poster, I find going fast for long periods of time very physically uncomfortable and mentally tiring.

I prefer 55-60mph on 2 lane blacktop roads myself.the freeways are for getting from point a to point b asap.besides you can see a lot more cool stuff running back roads my 2cents worth

The speed is matter of habit, I think somebody mentioned it here and I will add habit and fairing

Traveling through France and Germany in two and fully loaded, we were often between 80 - 100 mph just to stay with the crowd and maintain some safety zones.  With the fairing on CBX750 it was not that hard.
