I never went to the chili cook off but went to Chugwater with my ex back in the late 80's to meet up with her sister & brother in law for a camping trip. I can't remember ever being anywhere on the planet with the wierdos I encountered there. We arrived before her sis and went into a bar to have a beer. The gal behind the counter told us it was a soda pop bar!! Sure enough after looking around.....everyone was drinking cokes.....people at the bar....people at the pool tables....everywhere. I ask the gal where I could get a beer. She looks at me and says (totally smart-a$$ed) you can go down the block and buy package at the drug store or you can go 30 miles that way and go to the bar. So I roll down the street to the drug store and find me a 6 pack of Bud to drink while we are waiting for her sister. They had like one of those old 50's soda fountains in there and my ex decides to get an ice cream cone. She asks what flavors they had. Vanilla!!! WOW!!!! Thought I was in the twilight zone for sure!!!! I always wondered after that what was in the water at Chugwater!!!
