The PVC pipe is working a treat. The elbows are pretty easily massaged into the right angles with a grinder and a glue gun. Bit more tweaking and I should be paying a visit to Carrington in a few weeks.

Should of given Ed a call before driving out there this morning. Arrived at the unit which was partially opened or closed. Rang the number on the piece of cardboard pegged to the door assuming they stepped out for smoko. Spoke to Ed and unfortunatley Ed's on sick leave awaiting a by pass. Deja vu or what. Last chap from Action cranks was in a similar situation. Ed understandably wasn't up for anymore work and mentioned call him anytime if I have any further querries etc. I wished Ed all the best and motored on down to Dominators.

Kev at Carrington hadn't started on the headers and tells me they'll be ready next Wednesday.

Russell at Dominators will acid bath, linish, fit the rods, check clearences and balance $260. Ready on Tuesday.

Whilst at Russells I gave Ed a call and must have called him at a bad time. He seemed a little annoyed that I had called for advice, proceded to tell me he is not working and practically hung up in my face.  I think there may be a little on set of dementia. I'm sure an hour ago he said call anytime. With respect he must be going through a stressful time.

Warning engine rebuilding can be bad for your health!!!

What's the deal with the rods?

All this talk of Ed catches my eye too as that's my name.

Ha ha don't worry mate. I did mention in an earlier post Ed from Heads plus.
When you start your own shop choose the name carefully. ;)

I've got two sets of rods and asked Russ to choose the best lot to fit to the crank I scored from Dave500 as I purchased the crank only minus rods.

When fitting em up he'll check journals and clearences and pretty much get it ready to drop into the case.

Ziokhan

I forgot to warn you about Ed, he's like bear coming out of hibernation.

He'll be back, he's a dying breed, he never was big on customer skills.

ziokahn, any thoughts on who will weld up your headers? I assume you need someone to weld on the end sleeves plus not sure if you are running a merge or 4-4.

I have a bud who can do it but he doesn't generally back purge and I am keen to see how much a "bead master" would cost given it's such a visible part of the bike.

Gday I won't need any back purging done as I only need the end sleeves welded on and the inside can be accessed. I'm running 4 into 4 so that will be the extent of the welding. The challenge for me is getting those extra kinks in. Spoke to a mate yesterday who is a welder and he is confident he can get a good enough seal from the inside. If he needs one on the outside, the weld will be covered by the flange ,so visually it's not that important.
Talking about a bead master, was out at Ultimate Shine in Liverpool and one of his clients does some killer work. There were photos of this young doods bobber with a diamond stitch design embossed or engraved into the metal seat, amongst other wicked fabrication he done these twisted header pipes. Functional I'm not sure, but it was first class artmanship. Now the sad thing is it's only a hobby and he only does his own projects . When I'm back out there I'll see if there's any chance I can get a contact for this dood.

Neevo payed Laurie and Dave Alderton a visit the other day. Unfortunately they couldn't help me with the pipe bending but put me onto a chap named Sid Moore out at Picton. Sid specializes in motorcycle exhaust repairs. After a brief chat, he thinks he may be able to help but needs to see the original pipes. He prefers I run the whole bike down to him, so I'll do that once I get the motor back in. I'm just waiting on an oil seal kit and gudgeon pins to arrive before putting the donk back together. The crank should be ready tomorrow.

Wiring harness, key barrel, points cover and rear brake light switch arrived today.

Ziokhan does Sid Moore build replicas?  Can he build from a picture or does he just do repairs?

Let me know when you go there, thx Mick

I hope I haven't breached any copy rights as I copied this image from this forums gallery. But here goes.

Who could pls explain how the wiring and battery is hidden on this example?. What's the trick??.

No worries Mick I'll find out when I pay him a visit. Did Luke out at Ultimate shine show you the pic on his wall of that young bloke who does that mental fabrication. He'll be able to whip up anything. Luke did mention he only does things for a hobby but if you ask nicely he may throw you his number or he could ask on your behalf. I'll keep you posted on when I visit Sid. Cheers

Could be using a capacitor instead of a battery and kick start only....   Please don't make your bike look like that thing.... :o ;D ;)

Although I think it's cool I'm sticking with the original plan, full faired 70's vibe.

I was not planning on running an airbox so was hoping to keep that section clear under tbe seat.

I'm not up to date with capacitors, so I'll do a bit of home work.

Thanks for the heads up.

If you search the forum you should be able to find a thread on Capacitors, its been discussed a couple of times, I think some early Triumphs used them as well...

I would probably go with a small gel battery and hide it in the tail section, I think capacitors aren't much good with lights and a battery system would be more reliable.....

Cheers Mick was looking into a gel battery. I don't have much room to play with under that section but will work things out.

Rang Kev today and he tells me my job's next inline. Should be ready tomorrow. It's the old story, small gigs get put on the backburner and the money earners get priority. Can't blame em.

Four pipes stainless steel $375. Your right Neevo can't complain about that. Happy with the result. They have left a bit extra so I can cut to measure and the for the kink required in pipe 2 and 3 to clear the oil cooler.

Only thing they forgot to supply the collars so I have left 1 pipe so they can get the right measurement. They will post out the goods or if Kev is in the area he will deliver them personally which I think is good going. Overall very pleased.

A few more goodies have the arrived. I'll pick the crank up this week and hopefully we'll have the engine in by next weekend the latest. Then I can get the bike out to Sid so he can check to see if he can help me with those extra kinks or bends required.

Through some very helpful leads from Retrorocket I have spoken with one of the guys who had a hand in originally building this bike. He is happy to come out to have a look to confirm a few of the mods before I put the engine back together. He tells me he also has the number of the guy who originally built the pipes. If I do catch up with him and he's still in the business he may be able to help if Sid gets stumped. I'll keep you posted.....

Collars arrived today via courier. Good going. Overall great service and price from Carrington. Cheers Neevo for hooking me up.

Your right about the anticipation waiting for the parts to arrive and ripping that parcel open like a kid at Christmas. The timing has been great with their arrival. Mrs has been out and I've happened to be home when the courier or Oz post comes knocking. Straight into the man cave. What what!!

Crank should be ready to go then all to do is jigsaw puzzle it back together sort out these headers then kick it in the guts and cross my fingers. Last time I tried to crank her over a 3 foot flame shot out of the head gasket...
