What's the plan for attaching the collars? TIG them to the end?

That's the plan. The mate I spoke with thinks he'll be able to get away with one run on the inside. I'm thinking the weld will be flat enough not to affect exhaust flow. What's your opinion?

Yeah I think it should work as long as the collars are tight on the tube. That way you don't need filler and it should be a fairly flat weld.

Pretty sure the gaskets will account for some imperfections too.

Copy. I'm hoping to have these sorted shortly. So the sooner I get this engine together and back in the chassis the sooner I can run it over to Sids to have em fitted. Definatley should be done before yours are ready so I'll let you know what headaches I encounter.

Update on the progress for whoever is interested. Slow progress to say the least but this is where it's at.
Bike has been out at Phil O'Brien's (pictured) getting some fabrication done over the past 2 months. Chrissy break hasn't helped.
Some may be familiar with Phil as he is an Aussie racing legend being part of the continental circus. I tracked down the original fabricator of the pipes Greg Ball who was unable to help me with the headers so he put me onto his old boss who happened to be Phil!! Greg was Phil's apprentice back in the day.
Phil's 74 and still going hard. Apart from being an absolute gentleman and all round legend, he has done a great job on the headers as well as fitting up the fairing. rear tail light bracket, side stand, headlight and a few other odds n ends. Bike will be ready in a week to fit the top end and wiring.
Let's hope it won't be another 3 months before the next post. Cheers

Apologies for the lack in correspondence fellow members. Although not actively blogging, I have however continued to chip away ever so slowly. I have had and continue to have problems with the uploading of photos and particularly the videos, so lost the motivation to maintain the blog.

Since the last time in which some fabrication and header work was completed, I have commissioned some more fabrication, having the ignition mounted, fabrication of side panels, fork braces, tacho surround and mount, rear brake light and cable mount, alignment of the tank and rear tail.

The top end was inspected and re fitted. A custom base gasket was made to allow for the higher lift. A little set back being the cam sustained some damage upon refitting and required some cast welding! Some re shaping of the fairing and wiring completed. Front brake and throttle cable made. Upon initial fire up, it was clear the carbs needed replacing as they did not have a choke or idle circuit. I understand they are off an SL125 and suited for track duties.

Two sets of original carbs were sourced and the 4 best stripped, hydro blasted and zinc plated. Fellow work colleague Dave Mac was meticulous in blasting the carbs, cast and alloy components so there was no polishing required. If anybody local requires any hydro blasting, just PM me and I'll forward you his details.

Re timed and balanced. Bores looked good, rings and valves within tolerances. If there are any opinions on the smoke screen, your inputs will be greatly appreciated. I am hoping after a good fang, this will subside.

Upon writing my last entry it was advised I should, but my concern was it would not link to my last entries and the time line would be lost.

I don't seem to be able to view the videos, but smoke and oil spitting out of the breather would indicate poor piston ring sealing. If it is excessive, I doubt a good fang will improve it, but it probably wouldn't hurt to give it a try..

Smoke is exiting the crank breather that was fitted for the higher comp not the breather on the head cover. I'm aware the rings could be the issue but they along with the pistons were within tolerances. But yes I'm hoping it is not blowback.
